Modest Community Services is looking for an energetic, responsible, and caring individual with Direct Support Professional experience. The ideal candidate is interested in working with individuals with developmental disabilities on recreational activities such as going to the movies, museums, parks and restaurants, participating in sports and physical activities, and building and nurturing life skills.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to;
- Planning and implementing social/recreational, individual and group activities, including but not limited to educational activities, arts & crafts, cooking, community outings, dancing, and sporting activities:
- Assisting with transportation of participants as needed.
- Ensuring safety and well-being of all participants
- Encouraging participation in group and individual activities
- Providing documentation and feedback on participation in the activities program and participates in case conferences with other staff members.
- Help establish volunteer and recreational opportunities for participants within an integrated, community based setting.
- Teach necessary skills to promote independence
- Assesses program needs and prepares orders for supplies. Maintains inventory of program supplies to ensure availability on demand.
- Evaluating program guidelines to maintain consistency and achieve optimal performance. Advises supervisor of recommended changes.
- Performs additional duties, as required.
Qualifications:
- Previous work as a (DSP) Direct Support Professional (required)
- A minimum of a High School Diploma, GED, or equivalency
- Valid New York State Driver’s License
- Knowledge of sport and fitness techniques
- Knowledge of conflict resolution and/or mediation practices
- Ability to motivate, engage and develop rapport quickly with program participants
- A high level of energy, enthusiasm, and patience
- A friendly and approachable personality
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Superior preparational and organizational skills
- Computer literacy skills.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $16.00 per hour
