About Ignite! Reading
Our Mission: Ignite! Reading is a mission-driven public benefit corporation focused upon ensuring all kids learn to read by the end of first grade.
Literacy is a social justice issue. 65% of fourth grade students in our country weren’t reading on grade level prior to the pandemic; even more devastating is the fact that 82% of low-income students aren’t reading on grade level. Reading is the operating system of a school; if kids can’t read, they can’t learn. Ignite is changing this, envisioning a world in which all kids leave first grade on-level, independent readers.
Ignite! Reading teaches kids to read by providing 15 minutes of daily, virtual, 1:1 reading instruction with a highly trained tutor. Our program gets results fast, accelerating reading
progress and closing critical gaps in order to ensure that all kids have the chance to be successful in literacy, school, and life.
Ignite’s first school program launched last fall and one year later we have grown our number of schools and students 18x. Our program is scaling quickly and we’re seeking a diverse team of talented, mission-driven individuals. We believe we can do well for our team members and stakeholders while we solve one of the nation’s biggest challenges. We believe we will be more successful with a diverse team and are seeking candidates who are passionate about solving our country’s literacy crisis.
