General Summary:
- Following established policies and procedures, is responsible for daily Hospital receiving and distribution operations to ensure that patients and staff receive quality service in the most economical and expeditious manner.
- Receives, scans, sorts incoming supplies and verifies that materials received match those ordered in both type and quantity. Performs regular inventory.
- Checks to ensure appropriate inventory levels are maintained in the storeroom.
- Works closely with Purchasing Director and Nurse Managers to determine supply needs.
- Transports and oversees distribution of supplies to the appropriate departments within the hospital.
- Participates in the preparation, assembly and shipping of outgoing materials. Maintains accurate records of requisitions, packing slips and receipts to keep accounts and supplies current.
- Performs mailroom duties such as sorting mail, providing a variety of postal services.
- Keeps apprised of Hospital staff changes and updates the mail machine address book and mailbox information as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- Requires high school diploma/GED and at least one year of related experience including knowledge of inventory control, materials handling techniques and standard record keeping procedures; the ability to operate a hand truck, dolly, pallet jack; ability to use calculator; and general computer experience.
- Must possess valid Maryland driver’s license with good record at time of appointment, and meet Sheppard Pratt requirements to operate Health System vehicles throughout time in position.
- Work requires interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with internal staff and external contacts, display pleasant telephone manner, communicate clear instructions and procedures.
- Work requires problem solving ability to apply policy and resolve daily problems independently, and to use judgment as to when to bring concerns to supervisor’s attention.
