Do you want to be part of a cutting edge virtual academy? We are looking for a team of professional guidance counselors to help us with our growing school. Multiple positions available.

The professional school counselor enables student success by providing needed services and responding to individual needs. The counselor helps develop and implement the school’s career guidance program. The counselor works to maintain a positive learning experience and encourage parent involvement in the student education. This is a 12 month-in office position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Delivers curriculum and supports student development
  • Analyzes data and implements data driven programs and intervention action plans
  • Provides services to individuals or groups on academic or personal issues; provides plans including Educational Development Plans to guide students towards goals including post-secondary education and dual enrollment
  • Develop positive relationships with colleges and universities to further the interests of students for post-secondary transition
  • Facilitate a plan (information services to students and parents, testing dates, sites, registration, marketing) to promote the participation of students in testing initiatives for college entrance suggestions for improving attendance through marketing and messaging
  • Provide for student orientation to students and discuss and implement state guidelines and expectations
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of student transcripts and course enrollment to meet graduation requirements
  • Participates in the implementation of Section 504 plans
  • Solid understanding of MI compliance and dual enrollment laws
  • Process transcript and record requests
  • May work with the special education department on programming or placement of classes
  • Other duties may be assigned

Bachelors/Master’s Degree in Education School Counseling from four-year College or university

Certificates and Licenses: Michigan Teaching license with school counselor endorsement or counselor license required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in school counseling
  • Experience with distance learning
  • Advanced coursework in counseling and administration
  • Experience as a teacher
  • Experience in a customer service environment
  • Experience with local, State and Federal laws and mandated reporting
  • Experience in a charter school environment preferred
  • Ability to adapt to a virtual model

Language Ability:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to maintain command of theoretical knowledge of human behavior and learning including motivation, reinforcement, evaluation and feedback techniques.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; Internet software, database software, recording and reporting grades electronically.
