Celebrating more than 36 years of success, the Orange County Convention Center (OCCC) is the second largest convention facility in the United States, and is owned and operated by Orange County Government. Located in the heart of the tourism district the center serves as the perfect event destination, attracting more than 200 events to the Central Florida area each year. As a result, roughly 1.4 million attendees contribute approximately $2.1 billion to the area's annual economy. Orange County Convention Center is known as the Center of Hospitality!
The position of Executive Director for the Center presents a unique and rewarding professional challenge and opportunity. The position is appointed by the Board of County Commissioners and reports to the County Administrator. The Executive Director is responsible for the overall planning, marketing, operations, and activities of the Center and provides the leadership required to ensure that its short and long term goals and strategies are achieved. The successful candidate will join a team that is striving to achieve a level of exceptional customer service while seizing opportunities to increase the number of events, expand the use of available convention space, and maximize the demand for room nights in area hotels.
The salary range for the Executive Director is $180,000 to $250,000 per year. Candidates may be eligible for bonus compensation correlated to specific performance criteria. Details to be determined.
Preference will be granted to Assistant General Manager, Deputy CEO, and Deputy General Managerial level and above overseeing at least 700,000 square feet of exhibit space.
Experience in working with the hospitality industry and destination marketing organizations.
Specific knowledge of national and international trade shows, associations, and conventions.
Strong interpersonal, communication, customer service, and problem solving skills.
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in Business, Public Administration, Hospitality Management, Marketing, or a closely related field and 5 years of senior level management experience in the operation of a large convention center facility, or equivalent managerial experience.
Master's degree may be substituted for 2 years of work experience.
Directs the promotion, marketing, sales, operations, planning and public relations activities of the OCCC.
Develops, maintains, and implements long term plans for marketing strategy, capital improvements and operations management to ensure that OCCC positions itself as a leader in the industry.
Develops and monitors the OCCC budget to ensure consistency with County and Center objectives.
Directs and manages strategy for negotiations with clients, prospective clients and trade organizations for scheduling and booking of the facility.
Establishes productive and effective working relationships with area stakeholders and partners.
Resolves issues and advises the County Administrator, County Mayor and Board of County Commissioners of operational activities and revenue projections through meetings, reports and memoranda.
Implements strategies for improving operational efficiency of the Convention Center.
Establishes and administers contract rates and terms, and executes lease agreements as the County’s representative.
Responsible for various personnel matters including: hiring, discipline, training and development, performance appraisals, and related activities.
Represent the County at convention industry forums and serves as liaison with officials of related industries.
Performs other duties of a comparable level as assigned.
