Duties
Summary
This position is located in the Family Medicine Department of Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune, NC and services as a Special Assistant to the Commanding Officer as well as a member of the Board of Directors. The Designated Institutional Officer (DIO) who, in collaboration with the Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC), has authority and responsibility for oversight and administration of the Sponsoring Institutions' ACGME-accredited programs, as well as responsibility for ensuring compliance with the ACGME institutional, Command and specialty/subspecialty-specific program requirements. This includes upholding an institutional-level responsibility for the organization and implementation of educational objectives in direct support of the GME programs. In addition, the Family Practitioner in this position would maintain a partial panel of patients; provide hands on clinical education and provider oversight for of the clinical GME as this facility.

The DIO is responsible for providing written document demonstrating the Sponsoring Institution's commitment to GME by providing the necessary financial support for administrative, educational, and clinical resources, including personnel, and which must be reviewed, dated and signed at least once every five years by the DIO and CEO of the Sponsoring Institution.

Responsibilities

The successful selectee will perform the following duties:
Ensure membership of Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC) concurs with ACGME Institutional Requirements.
As a member of the Board of Directors, collaboratively evaluates and adjudicates issues, policy and procedures and practices associated with the governance and operations of the command as a whole.
Function as manager and team member of a Collaborative health care team in the delivery of comprehensive health care and health maintenance in a primary care setting.
Maintain a partial panel of patients; provide hands on clinical education and provider oversight for all the clinical GME at this facility.
Provide leadership to all GME Program Directors within the command as well as the GMEC.
Responsible for the oversight and the administration of the Sponsoring Institutions' ACGME-accredited programs as well as ensuring compliance with program requirements.
Assess sponsoring institutions in the following areas: patient safety, transition in care, supervision, duty hours oversight, annual planning, etc.
Actively involved in the Patient Safety and performance improvement programs.

Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess:
DEGREE: Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from a school in the United States or Canada approved by a recognized accrediting body in the year of the applicant's graduation. If your Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree is from a foreign medical school that provided education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the United States, you must have a permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) or a Fifth Pathway Certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduated education in a foreign country.
LICENSING: Active, permanent, full, unrestricted physician license to practice medicine in any state, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
RESIDENCY: 5 years of residency training or equivalent experience and training in Family Medicine (i.e., 3 yrs. Residency & 2 years fellowship and/or experience). Your resume must reflect you have a sufficient level of expertise in Family Medicine to perform the core privileges of this position at the GP-15 Level.
Completion of a residency program in the specialty approved by the American specialty board or AOA, board certification, or board eligible.
Current clinical competence (e.g., privileged to independently practice as a Family Medicine Physician within the past 2 years, actively practiced within the past 2 years by having encountered a sufficient number of clinical cases to represent a broad spectrum of the privileges required).
No health status contraindications to granting clinical privileges.
Board certification is desired but not required.
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least two years year of experience at or equivalent to the GP-14 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.This includes, but is not limited to, the following: providing oversight and administration of a Sponsoring Institution's ACGME-accredited program, as well as responsibility for ensuring compliance with ACGME Institutional, Common, and specialty/subspecialty-specific Program requirements; providing training support to medical staff and personnel; participating on clinical staff boards and committees; preparing and submitting written annual executive summary of Annual Institutional Reviews. SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: This position has a Selective Placement Factor (SPF). The actual SPF is do you have current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
