This position reports to the Director of Commissioning. This position is located in Houston (remote) and working hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:00am to 5:00pm or 9:00am to 6:00pm local time. Overtime and weekend working hours may be required as needed. This position may be expected to travel up to 100% on an as needed basis. Regular attendance, in accordance with the company’s attendance policy and supervisory assignment, is an essential job duty requirement for this position. The role will primarily be responsible for effectively managing SunGrid Commissioning Teams and ensures SunGrid Projects have been properly designed, installed, and tested prior to safe operation through a series of steps in the project implementation process that demonstrates, measures, or records a spectrum of technical performance and system behaviors.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION & ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Directly supports Director of Commissioning goals and objectives.
- Participates in the key design reviews such as P&ID, Equipment Layout, and HAZOP to ensure that the pre-commissioning and commissioning requirements are incorporated into designs.
- Works closely with project managers and project team to ensure quality and on-time delivery of project.
- Oversees Startup and Commissioning for all US and/or Canadian projects and is process owner for all policies and procedures associated to commissioning department.
- Monitors and reviews all startup and commissioning activities and makes recommendations for necessary revisions to program as required.
- Actively participates in Commissioning Management and incorporates best practices, specifically work processes and tools in support of commissioning.
- Assists in the creation of Commissioning procedures/plans for assigned projects.
- Ensures compliance with Commissioning procedures/plans created following the latest ANSI/NETA Acceptance Testing Specification (ATS) and ANSI/NETA Electrical Commissioning Specification (ECS) along with any Federal, State, Local or regulatory requirements.
- Works with 3rd party companies to develop and source commissioning resources.
- Develops commissioning resource strategy, cost estimates, and schedules in support of proposals.
- Participates in Front End Loading (FEL) and Stage Gate process for assigned projects.
- Tracks commissioning equipment for calibration and compliance reporting.
- Works with team to procure new commissioning equipment.
- Identifies and assigns appropriate resources to accomplish various project tasks.
- Documents operational tasks and reports to upper-level management
- Performs employee reviews and assessments.
- Reviews and approves employee expense reports.
- Assists with new employee onboarding and training program.
- Manages the day-to-day activities of the project commissioning teams, which may comprise of commissioning specialists, technicians, engineers, and maintenance specialists.
- Resource recruiting, planning, training, salary management, performance management, and career development for <10 commissioning team members.
- Provides expertise and oversight on all construction projects for start-up and commissioning.
- Provides direction, coaching and guidance in construction and commissioning management. including the development of personnel assigned to the team adopting an attitude of care and respect for self and colleagues.
- Establishes strong working relationships with project execution teams to ensure high quality deliverables.
- Builds relationships and facilitates interactions between on-site field commissioning engineers and Engineering, Operations, and Reliability teams.
- Ensures that the commissioning team has met all acceptance criteria specified in the test procedures for each project.
- Ensures quality and timeliness of commissioning deliverables by commissioning teams.
Experience/Skills/Abilities
- Verifiable quality assurance and/or construction experience with BESS Projects. (preferred).
- Experience working with a cloud-based construction management system. (i.e., Procore, Office
365, etc.).
- Experience leading a team of resources (contract and in-house) with testing and commissioning deliverables is desired.
- Field experience in troubleshooting
- Mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation equipment at control, low, medium & DC voltages
- MCC (Motor Control Centers) Operations
- Transformers
- Protection relays and Metering (preferred)
- Demonstrated track record of job-site safety excellence.
- Problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills and demonstrated ability to effectively work with other functional departments within the organization.
- Knowledge of project plans, specifications, and drawings.
- Knowledge of construction principles/practices required.
- Strong work ethic and desire to work in a team environment.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED.
- Minimum of 10 years of direct commissioning or related field experience.
- Current and valid driver’s license required.
- Must have the ability to travel, work on-call during off shift hours and weekends.
- Willingness to travel up to 100% of the time (Travel may not always be required but will be determined by commissioning requirements).
