The Speed Shop Associate is responsible for the sales, profitability, superior service and the effective operation of the Speed Shop within one location. A successful Speed Shop associate is responsible for ensuring that the Speed Shop operates under safe conditions according to the established policies and procedures and in full compliance with federal and state regulations. The Speed Shop Associate will work closely with Store Management to ensure the Speed Shop business is organized and operating at optimal efficiency while meeting the needs of every customer by adhering to Do It Right Related Selling and Repair Excellence Standards.

  • This Speed Shop associate position will be a cross-functional position and assist the store team in serving retail customers inside and outside of the Speed Shop... In event that there are not customers in the Speed Shop area, the Speed Shop associate will assist customer throughout the retail sales floor. Additionally, the Speed Shop associate will work with the retail sales team in efforts to strengthen sales skills, product knowledge and sourcing of products.
Speed Shop Associates are Expected to Drive These Five Priorities-
Associates - will inspire and develop a team of one or more associates to exceed company sales, operational and service goals for the Speed Shop area. Will proactively work with the Service Manager to identify installation opportunities along with providing assistance to local stores in the sale of performance related merchandise.

Customers - Will provide superior customer service to all Speed Shop customers by ensuring the timely, accurate and profitable sourcing of performance merchandise. This includes fully understanding all segments of the performance market (Truck, Jeep, Diesel, Classic, Muscle Car, Import / Sport Compact, Other).

Sales -- Expect to know and drive sales goals for the Speed Shop. Will be expected to measure sales results by evaluating various financial reports and demonstrate a clear and objective understanding of the performance categories. Speed Shop associates are expected to be resourceful, will provide availability of parts, accessories and technical support to customers through various internal and external vendors and suppliers.

Profits - Will be expected to improve the profitability of Pep Boys by providing superior service, selling service and product professionally, acting in a safe and courteous manner in full compliance with federal and state regulations, controlling payroll and inventory. Will also be expected to take an active role in improving profit margins.

Growth -- A Speed Shop Associate contributes to the growth of the organization by offering superior service and ensuring a pleasant shopping and service experience for all customers across all lines of business. Additionally, growing the Speed Shop business through developing and executing a localized marketing plan, designed to increase the awareness of Speed Shop thus increasing the customer base and sales.

The Speed Shop Associate is responsible for all aspects of the Speed Shop's sales, inventory, productivity, profitability, work environment, safety, and operational compliance. These essential duties are measured through various reporting tools, periodic assessments, Speed Shop Director & Area Director store visit feedback.

Comply with company policies and procedures as outlined in the Human Resources and Stores Operations Manuals. Must ensure training completions are maintained at 100%.

Provides procedural guidance and technical direction to ensure associates comply with policies and procedures, loss prevention, safety, federal and state regulations, and environmental codes and ordinances.

Will be the primary resource for technical matters, advice, direction and assistance related to installation and proper application of performance merchandise.

Will passionately focus on customer needs, and drive the performance business with the highest degree of integrity and trust. Must be approachable by both customers and associates.

The successful Speed Shop Associate will be expected to balance administrative duties, satisfy existing customers and drive new business.

Provide regular updates on the performance of the Speed Shop, identifying trends, requests and merchandising recommendations.

Comply with marketing initiatives, developed and designed to build Speed Shop awareness locally.
Host "cruise nights" and or "car show" events at the store location to build relationships with local car clubs and car enthusiasts a like. Attend local "grassroots" car events to promote the Pep Boys Speed Shop and availability of aftermarket accessories.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Completion of a two-year college or technical program and/or three to five years experience in an automotive aftermarket accessories environment is preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, analyze, and interpret retail business reports, professional and/or technical journals, time reports, operational reports, government regulations, merchandising reports, plan-o-gram instructions or technical procedures. Must be able to collect data or facts and draw valid and accurate conclusions. Ability to effectively present information to various levels within the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages and fractions. Must be able to apply mathematical formulas to calculate commission, discounts and interest. Must be able to read and interpret Profit and Loss Statements.

REASONING ABILITY Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.
