This position will be filled at the Intermediate hourly range of $55.00 - $60 per hour as the primary goal. The requirements listed below reflect the Intermediate level expectation. Applicants with lesser experience are encouraged to apply and may be considered if the primary goal is not met. Lesser-experienced candidates will be reviewed at an Associate level salary range of $45.00 - $50.00.

Job Summary
The main focus for this position will be to provide technical support to the computer and network operations. This includes initially receiving service requests from users either online or by telephone and diagnosing and repairing the problem until it is resolved. It also involves updating the ticketing system by creating a service order and entering the details of the incident such as the customer name, the application/program affected, the root cause of the incident, etc. This job requires excellent analytical and communication skills, ability to multi-task due to simultaneous service requests in some instances, high tolerance to stress and agility in a fast-paced environment. At a minimum, a Computer/Network Support Specialist usually holds a certificate in Networking and experience with desktop and endpoint devices such as servers, PC’s and tablets. They work in both an office environment and at customer sites; a good driving history is required. As a Specialist, you will routinely interact with most computer systems and users.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as first level I.T. tech support contact for the corporate office and log call details in ticket system
  • Research, troubleshoot and test hardware and software solutions to resolve issues and assist in implementing new technologies
  • Escalate support issues to more senior staff members as necessary
  • Follow up on open tickets and communicate status updates to user community
  • Tracking tickets for analytics/ trouble call trends
  • Assist in setting up, configuring, and maintaining technology for the corporate office
  • Serve as a backup to field technicians
  • Provide technology support primarily to the corporate office, and to stores as needed
  • Perform other tasks and special projects as needed

Essential Job Functions:

  • Operate a personal computer, host computer and other general office equipment
  • Apply cognitive skill to research and resolve technology issues
  • Take directions, carry out instructions, follow posted rules, and interact with coworkers
  • Primary hours of coverage are 9:00am to 4:00pm, Monday through Friday, with a standard one (1) hour lunch period and two (2) break periods
  • Promptness and reliability are essential to operations.

  • Help Desk/Customer Service experience

  • Working knowledge and proficiency supporting office equipment such as printers, scanners, etc.
  • Working knowledge and proficiency with networking and sever maintenance, communications concepts, hardware, and protocols

  • Working knowledge of VM Ware concepts
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Server, Active Directory, VPN, and SAN management
  • Working knowledge of POS/HOS systems concepts

Required Qualifications*
Bachelor's degree in an associated field and/or equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience
Minimum of two (2) years of experience configuring and troubleshooting networking equipment in an IP environment
Ability to work independently to successfully monitor network equipment, perform configuration changes, update required documentation and perform testing and analysis of network equipment and software
Demonstrated ability to utilize analytical and communication skills in the development and modification of written procedures, processes, and technical support knowledgebase documentation
Ability to leverage appropriate technical tools to perform day-to-day administration tasks, root-cause analysis and service restoration (such as programming tools for automating network administration tasks, backup, restore, failover, log analysis, performance monitoring and incident management) for network systems
Working experience with Spanning Tree, Link Aggregation and Router Redundancy Protocols
Ability to move and transport and maneuver telecommunication equipment and supplies weighing up to 30 lbs. from trucks and loading docks to campus locations for installation or testing
Must have a personal mobile communication device and a home internet connection
Demonstrated effective creative problem solving and flexibility when collaborating with customers, team members, support teams, external vendors, and technical organizations
Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills including strong interpersonal skills with an ability to work effectively through all levels of management and matrix organizations

Desired Qualifications*
JNCIS-ENT and/or CCNA certification
Experience configuring network switches, routers access points and wireless controllers
Experience with Juniper OS, Cisco IOS, and network capture and analysis tools
Experience with CISCO controller-based Wi-Fi, 802.1X Authentication and Wireless Accounting
Knowledge of layer 3 IP networks including VRFs, MPLS, ISIS, OSPF and BGP
Experience with network automation technologies and Python and Perl programming languages
Understanding of DNS/DHCP, Firewalls, load balancers, and IPS systems
Experience with desktop and/or network firewalls, VPN
Experience with UNIX/LINUX OS file editing and scripting

Physical Demands / Work Environment

Normal amount of sitting, average mobility to move around an office environment; able to conduct normal amount of work at a computer; travel to various locations on and off campus. Punctual, regular, and consistent attendance is required. May require on-call availability and may require working during non-business hours and on weekends.
