As a member of the Operations System Administrator (OSA) Team, you benefit Overstock by providing first-line support for back end application and database systems. A diverse skillset is required to fulfill the needs of this position. You will be doing everything from database maintenance to advising on strategic projects that have a direct impact on Overstock's position in the industry. This role requires you to be a go-getter who can solve problems on your feet and work independently with minimal supervision. An OSA team member must show a willingness to take on new responsibilities and challenges, despite unfamiliarity. The OSA team manages their workload through task queues and handles additional operational tasks on an as needed basis. Being a part of an off hours on-call rotation is required to ensure our 24-hour operation is attended to and maintained.
Providing first-line support and are subject matter experts for operational problems
across all departments
Identify and research back end related bugs. Work closely with the appropriate
Business, Product and Development teams on resolutions
Fix data related bugs/issues via database or application updates
Preparation of communications on bugs/issues and projects
Functions as problem manager to assist in the identification ownership and resolution
of disruptions to Partner Applications
Assists in the improvement of Software Operational Stability by working with
development product management to classify disruptions and make sure process
improvements are made to avoid to repetition
Able to facilitate and document problem management meeting including problem
identification, severity designation, and post resolution postmortems
Identifying, understanding and explaining the impact of new processes and/or
changes to existing processes on product quality and customer satisfaction
Participate in product requirements, tech design, test and pre and post deployment
planning and validations
Ensuring successful development and implementation of new business processes
Identify opportunities for process automation, working with the business to define,
optimize and ultimately provision both supervised and unsupervised automation
Providing functional direction, technical direction, and support to multiple internal
departments such as:
Partner Care, Marketing, Merchandising, and Product Care.
Perform other duties as required and assigned by manager and upper management.
Follow legal policies as directed.
Advanced knowledge of Overstock’s internal applications and databases
Minimum 2 years of experience working in an operational support role
E-commerce industry experience
Ability to communicate technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences
An excellent understanding of relational database systems
Proficiency with data management and integrity principles
Intermediate-level knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL)
Advanced-level knowledge of Microsoft Excel
Ability to manage time effectively, prioritize duties, and meet deadlines
Superb attention to quality, detail, and organization
Ability to troubleshoot and apply problem-solving skills in an organized manner
Polished oral and written communication skills
Basic knowledge of other programming languages is helpful (HTML, Perl, Java)
