General Dynamics Information Technology, is currently looking for a Research Scientist to join our team in support of the SMAVCS3 contract with the US EPA in Duluth, MN.
This position provides an excellent opportunity to combine ecotoxicology expertise with education or experience in biology, chemistry and/or environmental toxicology. Key SMAVCS3 consumers include EPA Office of Research and Development’s (ORD) Chemical Safety for Sustainability program, which integrates research on pesticides and toxics, endocrine disruptors, and computational toxicology; EPA’s Office of Pesticides and Office of Pollutants and Toxicants risk assessment programs and the EPA Region V Great Lakes National Program Office.
The primary responsibility, under general supervision of the project leader, is to curate ecotoxicology data for inclusion in the ECOTOXicology Knowledge Base (ECOTOX KB) as well as evaluating, analyzing and summarizing environmental monitoring data.
The position requires a Bachelor’s Degree plus two years of experience or Master's Degree in science related field; the preferred level of experience is a Master’s Degree and 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must have skills/knowledge:
Experience analyzing scientific data including experimental design and the application/ interpretation of statistical concepts
Familiarity with peer reviewed journal article and technical report formats
Strong knowledge of common software applications, including Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe; general skills in learning and basic use of a wide-range of software including but not limited to bibliographic, statistical analysis, data plotting software.
Complete understanding and wide application of technical principles, theories and concepts in the field. General knowledge of other related disciplines.
Provides technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems. Solutions are imaginative, thorough, practicable and consistent with organization objectives.
Contributes to completion of specific programs and projects. Failure to obtain results or erroneous decisions or recommendations would typically result in serious program delays and considerable expenditure of resources.
Works under very general direction. Independently determines and develops approach to solutions. Work is may be reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives.
