This tax analyst position is a rotational opportunity within the Tax Staff, located at the corporate headquarters in Detroit, Michigan. This position provides an excellent opportunity for a candidate looking to learn, expand their skills, and develop their tax career. GM Tax offers several areas of specialization in which individuals can make an impact, including: Tax Accounting, Tax Compliance, Tax Audits, International Tax, State and Local Tax, Transfer Pricing, Value Added Tax, Customs, and Tax Planning. This position requires tax and accounting expertise, decision making ability, and initiative. Specific responsibilities may include:

Assist in the preparation of quarterly and annual income tax provisions
Assist in preparing quarterly and annual income tax-related SEC filings
Operate Sarbanes Oxley 404 tax controls and support related testing
Ensure timely and accurate filing of tax returns, including quarterly estimates
Recommend and implement processes that improve the efficiency and accuracy of tax accounting and compliance related activities
Partner with business units and other departments within Corporate Finance to ensure the accuracy of tax returns and financial statement balances
Provide support in the review and analysis of proposed and existing tax laws, regulations, and rulings
Build and update tax planning and tax analytic models
Assist in the management of federal and state audits, including drafting responses to government inquires and analysis of audit workpapers
Work with other members of the team in developing, implementing and defending return positions
Create project plans, solve problems, and develop new methods of analysis

Qualifications

Basic Required:
Professional Certification: Certified Public Accountant and Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
2-4 years of tax experience
Ability to prioritize assignments and manage work load within statutory and internal deadlines

Basic Preferred:
Professional Certification: Master’s degree in Taxation or Accounting; other advanced degree or training
Corporate tax experience, including experience in tax compliance, planning and defense
Demonstrated effective analytical and problem solving skills
Well-developed computer and system skills, including experience with finance enterprise systems and tax provision systems (e.g., SAP, OneSource)
Demonstrated high levels of productivity and strong performance
Self-motivated, with strong interpersonal, team and partnering skills
