Provide materials engineering and management support for a Quality Assurance Program that consists of a daily material inspection placement process for HMA, PCC, and Aggregate/Soil materials, oversight of material inspection documentation and project closeout process, material inspection database, and material specification review and/or development. This candidate will be responsible for assisting the Program Manager and the Local Agency QA Management Team with material oversight activities and coordination for HMA, PCC, Aggregate, Soil, Steel and Miscellaneous Materials in accordance with established QA program requirements.
The candidate must be highly motivated and is expected to have good communication skills, both written and verbal, as well as possess good organizational skills and a willingness to take on new challenges. The candidate should have the ability to apply a common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral and diagram form. The candidate would be expected to work occasional overtime to complete special tasks and meet program objectives.
Minimum 5 year of relevant construction/materials experience; prefer 6+ years of experience
Familiarity with Material Testing and Project Procedures, and Construction Specifications
Ability to effectively manage and communicate with others
Proficient with Microsoft Office suite
Comfortable interacting in a calm and professional manner with agency representatives and construction personnel during difficult and intense situations
Self-motivated, conscientious, and detail orientated
BS in Engineering
Professional Engineer License
Effective critical thinker and comfortable with the development of new concepts or procedures
Experience working within a technical office or construction environment in HMA, PCC, and aggregate material testing and inspection as related to roadway construction
Strong understanding of project specifications and capable of deciphering the order of precedence leading to a correct enforcement of the requirements
Preferred experience includes work on projects for IDOT, CDOT, ISTHA, and/or federally funded projects for municipalities or other local agencies
Certification in IDOT QC/QA HMA and PCC Level I and II, and Mixture Aggregate Technician
General duties and responsibilities:
Report to Program Manager and/or the Owner’s QA Management Team to provide material engineering support, assistance and associated project coordination on a large scale QA Program
The position requires effective and efficient coordination abilities in dealing with Local Agency QA personnel, Resident Engineers, and Contractors
Managing and coordinating with internal staff and external consultant staff members
Analysis of technical data for material investigations; and experimental or new technology trials
Preparation of technical reports
Development and revision of technical construction or material specifications
