Operate and maintain the following plant-wide utility systems:
Steam and condensate – including boilers, DA feed water system, condensate pumps, chemical injection systems, controls, tower and chiller filtration, etc.
Chilled water – including chillers, cooling towers, loop circulating pumps, controls, etc.
Compressed Air – including compressors, desiccant air dryers, APT control systems, etc.
Vacuum – including vacuum pumps and associated controls
USP Purified water – including multi-media filters, water softeners, reverse osmosis unit, CDI’s and EDI’s, pre-treatment and distribution systems, oxygen generators, ozone generating equipment, UV lights, distribution pumps and associated controls
Tank Farm - Receive, sample and unload all tank truck and rail car deliveries of raw materials. Operate the Tank Farm systems, using all procedures and equipment required. Includes storage tanks, unload and transfer pumps, nitrogen blanketing systems and associated controls

Waste Handling / Monitoring system
Maintain efficient operation of all equipment. Trouble shoot mechanical difficulties of equipment and their controls. Improvise emergency corrective repairs as needed and plan and perform permanent repairs.
For the Utility Plant and Tank Farm, perform minor and major repairs, preventive maintenance and lubrication of all equipment and controls. Maintain proper chemical feeds to all systems where required.
For the Tank Farm: Unload Tank Farm railcars and tank trucks. Log unloads in the computer system. Take samples for the Chemistry & Microbiology Laboratory. Assist Railroad in spotting, chocking, entering and exiting the property. Maintain, clean and inventory the Tank Farm. Calculate tank capacities. Handle waste, maintain containment pit, maintain point of compliance sheds (waste water monitoring), maintain alcohol pad and maintain DSP operation of Section A. Perform annual cleaning of bulk raw material tanks
Order and maintain parts, spare parts, and chemicals needed for the Operations.
Interface with various computer control systems throughout the Plant as well as the Plant computer network including Microsoft Windows based software.
Perform general housekeeping duties to keep all equipment and work areas neat and clean. Notify supervisor when additional or detailed housekeeping activities are required.
Maintain equipment logs and keep Supervisor informed of any abnormalities.
Address alarms and situations that arise with plantwide utility systems and environmental support equipment.
Make periodic tours of the Plant to check general conditions paying special attention to boiler room areas, tank farm, USP water rooms, compressor rooms and chiller room. Correct any abnormalities identified and/or notify Supervisor.
Aid Security Guards in assessing and controlling emergency situations throughout the Plant.
During periods when Supervisor is not in the building, operate the entire power plant and piping system and make any necessary adjustments or take other measures without direct instruction to maintain satisfactory operation when special situations arise throughout the Plant.
Adhere to all applicable guidelines, policies and procedures, as well as current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs) and all SOPs
Provide basic electrical support, calibrations, pipefitting, and demolition where needed in the performance of specific job activities.
Complete routine calibrations, preventative maintenance tasks, equipment cleaning and sanitizations at required frequencies.
Perform other duties as directed which are related to the job. However, if work is unavailable in the colleague’s classification, they may be given other work assignments.
Machines / Equipment used: Boilers, feed and condensate pumps, air compressors and dryers, vacuum pumps, chillers, cooling towers, water softeners, reverse osmosis units, deionization units (CDI and EDI), ozone generating equipment, raw material transfer pumps and hoses, forklifts, powered pallet jacks, various hand tools, platform, lifts, several types of control systems and other equipment.
Safety Considerations: Observe all safety rules, housekeeping practices and procedures in the performance of duties and train other personnel as required.
Working conditions: Work includes daily tours of the Plant which involves moving from the heat of the boiler room to air conditioned areas, and outside (in rain, snow, heat, etc). Involves climbing of stairs, ladders, cooling towers, catwalks, rail cars, using safety harnesses, and may involve working on top of and inside boilers. Involves working with unlimited number of various raw materials (alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, toxic powders, acids, class 3 raw materials), and various chemicals and solvents involved in cleaning and charging of systems. Maintain safe work area by treating ice and shoveling snow. Bending, stooping, and lifting of weights up to 50 pounds performed throughout the entire work period. Standing and walking for extended periods may routinely be required. Work schedule is by shift where schedule days may rotate, including weekends. Working on holidays are expected when scheduled. Overtime is expected, as scheduled to support plant operations.
This position requires a minimum of a High School diploma / GED and either a trade-school diploma or military equivalent including boiler operations.
Minimum of two years experience is required
Or a minimum of five year prior experience working in boiler maintenance / operations
Or a state certification working in boiler related plant utility systems.
Experience in USP Purified water systems preferred.
Must be able to work the required alternate shift (6pm-6am Fri-Sunday)
