Avant Energy seeks to hire a Plant Operator to join our team. This is a new position and reports directly to the Manager, Distributed Generation Operations.


The Plant Operator will provide technical service and operations support for a 46 MW Natural Gas reciprocating engine power generation facility in Shakopee, MN

Responsibilities include both plant operation and minor maintenance duties. These tasks include:

Starting/stopping/operating large engines

Taking log readings on equipment

Processing work orders

Checking and adding fluids to equipment

Accepting deliveries

Changing spark plugs, sensors, and filters on equipment

Other minor plant maintenance as required

Ensuring all safety requirements are met

Working hours: 6am – 2pm M-F in the winter and 9am-6pm M-F in the summer with some unscheduled evening work. On-call for possible weekend work during alternating weekends/holidays.


We seek candidates with the following qualifications:
Associate degree or technical certification from an accredited school; or operational experience with natural gas, large reciprocating engines or wind turbines
Understanding of mechanical and electrical systems
Basic mechanical aptitude
Working knowledge of basic power plant operations preferred
