As a Lead Platform Engineer, you will be relied on for your experience, technical expertise, and ability to positively influence others. You will help drive the design and architecture of cloud-based and in-stores systems. You will support other engineers by setting priority and providing guidance or giving feedback on deliverables. This position will also help define and implement best practices within the team.
An effective Platform Engineer will be detail oriented, have broad technical understanding, and is a team performer. You have a diverse background in architecture, distributed systems, and development. To be successful, you must have extensive experience working with cloud technologies, be able to solve complex problems quickly, and thrive in a highly collaborative environment.
As a member of our team, you will build a secure, scalable, and easy to run platform using Kubernetes, Amazon Web Services, HashiCorp Vault, and Go. This solution will provide secrets and identity services to over 10k retail stores.
Summary of Key Responsibilities
Models and acts in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles.
Lead and influence within team, across IT, and with business partners to implement cost-effective solutions
Establish cross-functional, collaborative relationships with business and technology partners to align roadmaps and deliver business objectives
Support other engineers on the team by mentoring and providing guidance or feedback on deliverables
Support product owner by helping to initiate, prioritize, and organize complex development efforts within team
Understand platform utilization and drive toward increased adoption for the enterprise
Lead efforts decomposing complex designs and deliverables to realize iterative value
Lead developing high-level approach and solution design during project creation and providing LOE and other budgeting estimates
Support product owner during requirements gathering activities, gap analysis, and backlog grooming.
Implement design patterns and has ability to negotiate and communicate designs by socializing ideas with appropriate teams
Provide 24*7 support of critical systems in a rotating on-call environment
Implement deep telemetry capabilities to provide ongoing success and performance metrics
Direct the development of trend analysis reports and leads the remediation efforts for recurring issues
Direct the team's best practices for incident resolution and the facilitation of cross functional troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and engagement with vendors where needed
6-8+ years’ professional industry experience with software / systems development or in a DevOps role
4+ years’ experience in one or more systems languages: C++, Python, and/or Go
4+ years’ experience with Amazon AWS, or Microsoft Azure
4+ years’ experience operating complex, large¬-scale, guest -facing applications or services
1+ year experience administering or configuring Kubernetes clusters
4+ years’ experience in system administration, network administration, and systems engineering
4+ years’ building and operationalizing large scale customer facing services on Amazon Web Services (AWS)
Expertise with containers, orchestration, and service mesh. Preferably Docker, Kubernetes, and Istio
Knowledge of basic web technologies (HTTP, HTML, DNS, etc.) and Public Key Infrastructure (PKI)
Ability to debug and strong desire optimize code and automate routine tasks.
Outstanding troubleshooting, attention to detail, and written and spoken communication skills.
Experience migrating an organization to a new technology platform
Experience implementing a solution using HashiCorp Vault
