Sales & Use, Property Tax Accountant will work independently from beginning to end in preparation of State and Local taxes, Property taxes, and reporting Escheatable within software. The Sales & Use, Property Tax Accountant will be responsible for gathering data and preparing all non-alcohol license and permits and tracking payments to reconcile accruals. The Sales & Use, Property Tax Accountant will assist the Tax Manager in audits, research, protests, and sales and use tax accounting and planning opportunities. Responsible for managing and maintaining tax calendars, account analysis, remittance of tax payments, and performing analytical evaluation of property tax and business license accruals. This position will be responsible for meeting deadlines and assisting the Tax Manager in special projects and other tax issues.
Gather data to prepare State & Local Tax Filings (sales, use & liquor) from beginning to end
Maintain & manage software for State & Local Taxes, Property Taxes, Fixed Assets, Escheatable filings & Tax Rates
Gather data to prepare all non-alcohol licensing & permits
Assist in providing documents needed in audits
Analyze penalty and interest charges and write abatement requests for Tax Manager review
Research State and Local tax issues and possible other tax issues
Review and analyze expenses and fixed assets based upon the taxability by law and determine taxability measure or opportunity for refund
Preparation in review of tax accruals in reconciliation of trial balances
Manage, maintain and organize all tax files internal and external
Maintain and Manage tax rate changes within POS Systems and push change control forms to IT
Maintain and manage business license and property tax accruals
Correspond with Jurisdictions on Tax Liability Notices
Participate in Special Projects as needed
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Comprehensive technical knowledge of State and Local Taxes, Property Taxes, Escheatable reporting and Business License tax laws is required.
The ability to analyze tax issues, related facts and circumstances and recommend solutions is required.
The ability to conduct research and interpret all State and Local statutes is required.
Ability to learn the company’s legal structure, divisional policies, procedures and accounting systems is required.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing is required.
Ability to work on multiple projects and deadlines by prioritizing and utilizing organizational skills is required.
Knowledge of intermediate Microsoft® Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Internet navigation and research.
JDE knowledge or equivalent
Peladon Imaging knowledge or equivalent
Tax Software (Sales, Use, Real, Personal)
Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment & high quality attention to detail
Be self-motivated and have the ability to achieve preset goals with good organizational, planning and prioritizing skills with the ability to learn new things.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and/or Finance and three to five years tax experience in job related activities is required.
Essential Physical Demands
Must be able to lift, carry, push or pull boxes up to 30 lbs.
Occasional long periods of standing while copying or sitting while working at computer
Position is in an office setting that involves everyday risks or discomforts, which require normal safety precautions.
Work hours: Monday thru Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, however, business needs may dictate additional hours and occasional nights and/or weekend.
