Requirements:

Requirements: An assistant teacher must have a High School Diploma or GED. An assistant must have a CDA or associates degree in early childhood development or a related field. An assistant teacher must meet all current requirements of DOHMH and DOE requirements for teachers and must meet guidelines for receiving annual staff training. Assistant teachers must hold a current NYS Teacher Assistant certificate or pass the LAST examination for teachers. You will also need three letters of reference, current school transcripts, diplomas, and fingerprints. Additionally, you must be on a study plan, working towards fulfilling all requirements for permanent certification. Assistant teachers, who are currently on a study plan or in process of obtaining Provisional Certification by the New York State Education Department, must fulfill all necessary requirements for obtaining their Provisional Certification within two years of initial employment.

Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of Developmentally Appropriate Practice
  • Can articulate to parents Developmentally Appropriate Practice
  • Implement age appropriate school approved curriculum
  • Follow all Universal Precautions
  • Follow all policies/procedures
  • Follow school discipline and medical policies
  • Maintain and follow school schedule and daily lesson plan
  • Supervision of children at all times
  • Comfort children in distress
  • Change child’s clothes, pull-ups, or diapers as needed
  • Write reports of all accidents, illnesses and injuries
  • Telephone parents of any accident, illness or injury
  • Report all suspected child abuse cases to Director immediately
  • Report all parental concerns or conflicts to Director
  • Work in another classroom or facility & accept children from another class as needed
  • Follow a flexible lunch schedule
  • Flexible hours - additional hours or a time change in regular hours may be necessary for the safety of the children
  • Follow the classroom maintenance systems
  • Attending and supervising class trips
  • Supervising children on school bus during class trips
  • Following flexible lunch schedule
  • Flexible hours - additional hours or a time change in regular hours may be necessary for the safety of the children
  • Collecting after school children from their drop off location as needed
  • Moving or rearranging classroom equipment as needed
  • Move or rearrange classroom equipment as needed

Experience:
