Under the general direction of the HIM Director, the Supervisor of Coding/Education (Supervisor) is responsible for coordinating coding staff development and will orient new staff to all systems and software used in the coding process. The Supervisor will work with newly hired coding staff to develop coding quality, productivity, competence, accuracy, and thorough ethical coding. The Supervisor will also conduct coding audits to ensure consistency of feedback and to identify opportunities for further training and education. Serve as a resource for team members for all issues related to coding and is responsible for overseeing the day to day operations within the coding department to include, hiring, scheduling, corrective action.
High School graduate or equivalent. Advance education in related area of study preferred. Must have national certification or registration as CCS, RHIT or RHIA. Three years’ supervisory or leadership experience in HIM in an acute care setting. Extensive knowledge of federal and state rules and regulations as they relate to health information. Must possess superior public relations and customer service skills and be able to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with physicians, nurses, administrators, managers, vendors, contractors, and other health care industry personnel. Excellent time management skills. Strong computer, analytical, problem solving, decision-making and organizational skills. Knowledge of Joint Commission regulations. Experience using and managing electronic health records (EHR). Superior verbal and written communication skills.
