Job Description:
As a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) in Kentucky, you will provide comprehensive mental health care to patients across a range of ages and backgrounds. Your role involves assessing, diagnosing, and treating psychiatric conditions through medication management, psychotherapy, and other therapeutic modalities. This role is vital in ensuring that patients receive high-quality, evidence-based care tailored to their individual needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Assessment: Conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations, including taking patient histories, performing mental status examinations, and assessing risk factors.
- Diagnosis: Diagnose mental health disorders based on clinical interviews, diagnostic tests, and evidence-based criteria.
- Treatment Planning: Develop and implement individualized treatment plans that may include medication management, psychotherapy, and referrals to other specialists.
- Medication Management: Prescribe, monitor, and adjust psychotropic medications as needed, ensuring efficacy and safety. Educate patients about medication use, side effects, and interactions.
- Therapeutic Interventions: Provide psychotherapy and counseling to individuals, families, or groups as appropriate.
- Patient Education: Offer education on mental health conditions, treatment options, and coping strategies to empower patients in managing their health.
- Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other healthcare providers, including primary care physicians, psychologists, social workers, and family members, to coordinate comprehensive care.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including progress notes, treatment plans, and medication logs.
- Compliance: Ensure all practices comply with state and federal regulations, including those specific to Kentucky's nursing and psychiatric practice laws.
- Continuing Education: Stay informed about advancements in psychiatric care and mental health practices through ongoing education and professional development.
Qualifications:
- Education: Master's or Doctoral degree in Nursing with a specialization in Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) from an accredited institution.
- Licensure: Valid and active RN license and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) certification in Kentucky. Must be registered with the Kentucky Board of Nursing and hold an active DEA registration.
- Experience: Previous experience in psychiatric or mental health settings preferred. Experience with medication management and psychotherapy is highly valued.
- Skills: Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills, excellent communication abilities, and proficiency in using electronic health records (EHR) systems.
