Position Summary: The Women’s Therapy Center (WTC) is looking for a .6 FTE to .75 FTE (24-30 hours / week) Clinical Director who is committed to WTC’s vision of providing excellent relational psychotherapy training and service through a social justice lens. The Clinical Director oversees the day to day operations of the clinic, providing both administrative and clinical oversight while ensuring that all policies, procedures, and programs are consistent with the values of relational psychotherapy and social justice. This is a job for someone who is enthusiastic about relationship building and relationship management and someone who is deeply experienced in clinical teaching / facilitating. The clinical director reports to the Interim Executive Director.

Agency Overview: The Women’s Therapy Center (WTC) was founded in 1978 and has a rich history of providing long term relational psychotherapy for low to moderate income women as well as two training programs for clinicians. The two-year training program has two cohorts of 8 pre-licensed trainees each and the advanced training program is for experienced MFT & LCSW interns, pre- or post-doctoral psychology students, or are licensed. We have a volunteer faculty of about 45 experienced clinicians who teach and supervise.

We are primarily a volunteer organization with three paid administrative staff, 24-32 therapists in training and 45 volunteer faculty members (supervisors and teachers).

Position Responsibilities:

The Clinical Director recruits and selects both trainees and supervisors. Tasks include: *

  • Coordinating with graduate schools to advertise and recruit during placement fairs
  • Complete requirements and contracts for field placement offices * Coordinating the interview and selection process for trainees
  • Recruiting, selecting and on-boarding experienced clinicians to volunteer as supervisors and teachers

The Clinical Director oversees the day to day operations of the counseling clinic. Tasks include: *

  • Ensuring the quality and proper implementation of trainings and curriculum (including CEU compliance)
  • Ensuring that clinical, electronic health records, fee collection and other policies and procedures are properly implemented by both trainees and supervisors; updating policies and procedures when necessary; intervening when issues arise;
  • Monitoring assignment of cases and assessing whether trainees are meeting minimum requirements for successful completion and professional success; overseeing evaluation processes and creating performance improvement plans as needed;
  • Supporting communication and problem-solving between supervisors and trainees, as well as trainees and the agency, through a social justice and equity lens;
  • evaluations, proper staffing and supervision levels;
  • Cultivating and managing relationships with trainees / supervisors / teachers / facilitators
  • Leading monthly faculty meetings and overseeing faculty committees
  • Providing emergency back-up supervision for the clinic
  • Graduate degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or other mental health profession
  • Licensed in the state of California as LCSW, MFT or Clinical Psychologist
  • Ensuring the quality of clinical services through case conferences,
  • Experience as manager (director preferred) of a mental health clinic or intern training program
  • Ability to communicate / teach relational therapy
  • Familiarity with licensing processes in California
  • Knowledge of ethics and laws related to provision of psychotherapy in CA, and to the training of graduate students and interns
  • High expertise / experience in group process
  • High emotional IQ / interpersonal skills geared towards problem solving and action
  • Background and experience navigating issues of social justice/equity and power, and understanding of how they operate and intersect with organizational, interpersonal, and clinical relationships
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft, g-suite, electronic health records)
  • High level of capacity to manage projects, multi-task and meet deadlines amongst competing priorities including organization’s orientation towards relational and process / clinical issues
  • Experience and comfort assessing and managing complicated clinical situations and occasional clinical crises; ability to understand, frame and take leadership in situations as professional development opportunities that empower trainees and supervisors to work with integrity and autonomy
  • Commitment to long-term depth psychotherapy
  • Available from 9 – 2 on Wednesdays and Mondays 9 – 12
  • Some weekend and evening availability and accessibility as needed

Compensation/Benefits: This is a 24-30 hour a week position. Salary DOE; Benefits include medical, dental and vision, two weeks of vacation annually; a generous holiday schedule, and a flexible work schedule. In addition, the Clinical Director can see their own therapy clients in consulting rooms at the agency rent free (space permitting).
