The Accounts Receivable Specialist is responsible for ensuring all cash posting and adjustments are performed timely and accurately and appropriate action items are identified and communicated appropriately. The position also resolves unique and escalated cases brought forth by the external billing partners, serves as a point of contact to patients for billing-related inquiries and performs collection activity on patient accounts. In addition, the position serves as a back up to the external billing relationship and will need to be able to do medical billing if needed.
The Accounts Receivable Specialist position will be located in our Glenview, Illinois office.
Post all electronic and paper remittance advices daily. Reconcile all cash posted to bank cash receipts daily
Serve as subject matter expert on hospice and palliative billing rates and payor specific payment rules and apply this expertise to identify and complete all needed adjustments at the time of cash posting
Reach out to payors to understand unique and complex payment situations to determine appropriate next steps
Proactively communicate and escalate issues and concerns related to claim payment, trends, rate updates or other system configuration needs
Research and address any claim inquires brought forth by the external billing partners
Identify process improvement opportunities and champion their implementation
Assists in special projects and other billing needs of the office, as requested
Serve as a primary point of contact for patient billing-related inquiries; resolve them timely, accurately and according to the highest customer service standards
Perform collection activity on patient accounts
Be up to speed on the latest billing processes and serve as a back up to the external billing relationship to be able to do medical billing if needed
High School graduate, college degree preferred
Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, Commercial insurance and other third-party agencies
Experience with automated billing or Medicare, Medicaid and other third-party payors
Experience with Netsmart and Aprima EMRs a plus
Computer skills a must; MS Office package
Good oral and written communication skills
Exceptional attention to detail
Ability to work autonomously or in a team setting
