Reporting to the Associate Director for Employer Relations and Internships, the Career Consultant serves as a key member of Career and Civic Engagement's employer relations team, helping to ensure a high-quality recruiting program that reflects the needs and expectations of employers, students and the community. Manages the coordination of on-campus career events. Provides employer consultation, logistic support and marketing. Oversees communication between campus departments, employers and students. Supports the Associate Director's employer relations strategy through the active pursuit of college relations/recruiter contacts and other hiring sources for students and alumni. Guides employers in developing recruitment strategies for hiring Winthrop students/alumni. Manages the CCE Job Location and Development Program. Works with employers and students to identify and facilitate off-campus part-time and seasonal opportunities for Winthrop students. Markets use of EAGLElink as a resource for students seeking part-time employment. Provides individual career coaching for students. Utilizes online career management systems, including EAGLElink, EAGLEImpact and Candid Career, to support student career development. Develops, coordinates and facilitates training and skill development workshops for students on resume preparation, job search strategies, interviewing and experiential learning preparation.
Master's degree, preferably in Counseling, Higher education, Student Affairs, Business Organizational Development/ Communication, or related area, required. Two years of experience in student counseling, higher education or placement services and considerable skills in public relations and communications highly desired. Ability to communicate orally and in writing; use communication skills for program management; establish and maintain effective working relationships to build faculty support; use knowledge of the community and research and networking skills to grow experiential opportunities; use technology, including social media, to increase efficiencies; and travel and work flexible hours as needed. Familiarity with career assessments and counseling or coaching techniques.
