Under general supervision, performs a full range of para-professional engineering work to support a variety of engineering projects in an assigned area of responsibility and performs related duties as required.
Reviews permit requests site logistics plans and construction schedules for a variety of in-house and private construction projects (e.g., utility instillations, commercial developments, special events, canopy erection, etc...) to ensure compliance with City requirements and coordinate with other work within the public right-of-way.
Works with CDOT field inspector to issue modify and review public-way permits.
Attend meetings with contractors, utility owners and developers to provide comments or proposed work within the public right-of-way.
Attend internal meetings to advise and coordinate construction activities and special events with other city departments and agencies.
Reviews and approves permit requests for accuracy and compliance, and verify fees (e.g., traffic, driveway, sewer, public way).

THIS POSITION IS IN THE CAREER SERVICE
Three years of paraprofessional engineering experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

This position requires applicants to complete an interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position will be selected. The interviewed bidders possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position will be selected in seniority order according to the collective bargaining agreement.
Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:
Previous work experience reading and reviewing site plans, blueprints or construction drawings
Previous work experience in construction or special events planning
Previous customer service experience in an office setting
Previous work experience with managing or processing permits for special events
Previous knowledge of municipal code of Chicago 10-20 Work on and under Public Ways Ordinance
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook

Failure to answer the question and attach the required documentation will result in you not being considered for the Veterans Preference.

Residency Requirement: All employees of the City of Chicago must be actual residents of the City as outlined in 2-152-050 of the City Chicago Municipal Code. Proof of residency will be required.
