The Engineer I - Lighting will develop and support improvements of hazardous and industrial lighting products for global markets. The candidate will be a key member of a multi-discipline global project team involved with new product development and product enhancement programs. The ideal candidate will be self-driven with an eagerness to learn. This person will work under the supervision of senior technical staff. Challenges for growth encompass a breadth of technologies including electronics, solid state lighting technology, mechanical design, system engineering, product certifications, reliability testing and evaluation, design for manufacturability, and project management.

Support design and improvements of light fixtures, systems, and associated electrical and mechanical components
Conduct testing and verification of electronic components, modules, light engines, end products
Support product development process - concept, product specifications, design, supplier specifications, product validation, and production launch
Draft technical specifications for component and product designs
Gain a working understanding of global safety certification requirements for Appleton products
Learn and apply innovative technology directed at creating new or enhancing existing products
Learn to work effectively within global engineering teams
Design control, bill of material creation and maintenance, tracking and controlling design costs
Gain project management experience by coordinating activities across a global team

Basic Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
2-3 Years work experience in Development Engineering with demonstrated technical leadership success in design to production of new products.
Curiosity, self-learning, and technical analysis abilities
Understanding of electronic design and electronic components
Ability to systematically analyze technical data, solve problems, and coordinate projects
Skilled in use of Electronic CAD, MS Office, and related applications
Excellent communication skills

Preferred Qualifications
Experience with industrial products and design for extreme environments
Some experience with LED illumination
Experience with wireless connectivity, M2M technology, IEEE802.15.4, Zigbee, WirelessHART, and/or IoT technology
Master of Science in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Product Development
Familiarity with UL, CSA and IEC standards
