The Krogan Lab at UCSF is seeking a qualified and motivated Staff Research Associate to join their research groups (https://kroganlab.ucsf.edu/krogan-lab) as an assistant lab manager. This is an excellent opportunity for a long-term position with a large, highly collaborative research team, with opportunity to grow and advance one’s management skills and responsibilities.
Under general supervision of the Lab Manager, the SRA II will be assigned to assist in facilitating the work of a large-sized laboratory (~50 people) across 3 physical locations. The overall purpose of this position is to provide support to the Lab Manager in order to facilitate smooth day-to-day operation of the lab. This position is integral to the Krogan lab because it encompasses managerial duties that ensure consistency, uniformity, and continuity over time, locations, and across experimental projects. This position requires independence, but is under general supervision of the Lab Manager. This is a complex and varied position that requires an organized person with a talent for multi-tasking. It is anticipated that the incumbent will spend her/his time 45/45/10 among the three lab locations, but may vary due to each locations’ needs.
Major tasks include:

General lab organization and ordering, including ordering supplies, interacting with vendors, organizing and maintaining inventories and stocks of common buffers and reagents

Equipment purchases, maintenance, and oversight of major equipment (freezers, plate readers, shaker incubators, centrifuges etc.).
- Oversight of service contracts, scheduling of instrument repairs, and preventative maintenance visits.

Coordinating with facilities, logistics, and IT as necessary for lab operations

Assist as lab safety liaison, mediating interactions with EH&S and facilities staff, managing chemical and biological safety.
- Assist with Safe Shipping according to the needs of the lab.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.
For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.
