Position Concept:

This position will provide a variety of program support functions to ensure successful operations; including administrative functions associated with managing the program, leading instructional activities for life, academic, vocational and evidence-based skill building through the use of various curricula. Provide supervision to ensure the safety and appropriate social behavior of youth. The position will closely coordinate activities with the Case Manager.

Essential Functions:

  • Maintain socially appropriate behavior of youth through sanctioned and designed de-escalation skills and disciplinary procedures. Facilitates huddle-ups as necessary.
  • Serve as a positive role model to youth at all times through appearance, attitude, and behavior.
  • Serve as a mentor for skill building and employability development.
  • Assist families with transportation problems by transporting them to and from program for intakes, treatment team meetings, or other meetings as required.
  • Maintain sight and sound supervision of youth. Provide a safe and secure environment for all staff and youth.
  • Complete and document physical counts of youth according to policy.
  • Implement the behavior management system and documentation as necessary.
  • Responsible for safe operation of program vehicles assigned during duty.

Position Specifications:

Education - Two years of college coursework in social or human service field required. High school diploma or equivalent may substitute for college coursework requirement if the incumbent has two years experience working with troubled and/or delinquent youth.

Experience - For incumbents with a high school diploma or equivalent, two years full-time paid or volunteer experience working with youth required.

Skills - Able to present creative recreational or leisure activities. Requires a good understanding of group dynamics, group leadership and crisis intervention. Group management, observation, and documentation procedures. Prefer strong understanding of juvenile delinquent rehabilitation methods within a residential program. Will be required to obtain certification in First Aid and CPR & PAR. Requires strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Administrative and organizational skills.

Physical Demands - Job requires constant supervision of clients in unit. Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds. Extensive walking and standing involved. Must be capable of applying mechanical restraints according to standards. Must be capable of transporting a client. Must be capable of participating with clients in group games, experiential education activities, and adventure-based activities. Must be free of communicable diseases as defined by the state and to the extent that knowledge is attainable under the law. Must be in good physical health and emotionally stable. Must be able to restrain clients in accordance with approved techniques.

Other - Must meet state background screening requirements.
