The YMCA of South Florida is looking for energetic individuals who have experience working with children to join the Weston Family Center team as a Kids Zone Counselor. The Kids Zone Counselor is responsible for ensuring that children under their care are provided a warm, safe, and nurturing environment by caring for them while their parents and / or guardians utilize the facility.
Interact with children in age appropriate activities.
Actively participate and supervise children in a caring and a positive manner.
Treat children with warmth, dignity, and respect.
Communicate to parents clearly and in a timely manner any injuries, behavior problems and / or health concerns (i.e. runny nose, fever, etc.).
Establish and maintain good relations with parents.
Report to supervisor and complete necessary accident / incident forms related to injuries or behavior problems and health concerns.
Ensure that Kid Zone guidelines are met (Age restrictions and Log-In & Log-Out procedures).
Assist in annual campaign which includes achieving individual and team goals.
Keep Kid Zone room arranged with children’s safety in mind. Ensure that the arrangement, appearance, decor, and environment of the room are conducive to learning.
Maintain excellent communication with parents regarding activities, progress, achievements, classroom behavior, and / or concerns.
Practice and model appropriate discipline procedures in accordance with YMCA policy.
Attend functions such as staff meetings and program events.
Participate in ongoing professional developmental training programs.
All other duties as assigned by Program Director or Executive Director.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Presents themselves in a positive manner and displays a warm and caring demeanor towards children and parents.
Excellent interpersonal skills able to interact with individuals at all levels.
Excellent communication skills; both written and verbal.
Bi-lingual, fluent in both English and Spanish language preferred.
Minimum of 1 year of experience working with children preferred.
High school diploma or GED required.
Children and Families 40 hour Introductory Child Care Training preferred.
Certificates and Licenses:
CPR / First Aid training certified, and / or must be completed within three months of employment.
As a condition of employment, you will be required to submit to and satisfactorily clear a thorough Level II fingerprinting background screening.
