The Buyer is responsible for placing orders, managing vendor master files, purchase order logs, and the archiving of completed purchase orders. The Buyer performs continual checks of purchase orders for back order scenarios and follow-up. Assists the Materials Manager in implementing policies and procedures related to Materials Management in the healthcare arena.
Some post-secondary education is preferred. Must be able to read and write the equivalent of eighth grade English.
Two (2) years of Material Management and/or Medical Supplies Buyer experience in a healthcare setting is strongly preferred. Must have some advanced mathematical ability as it relates to healthcare volumes (i.e. cc, mg) and bulk purchasing and needs calculations.
Demonstrates advanced computer literacy and ability to utilize Purchasing applications. The Buyer may direct the activities of the Materials Distribution personnel.
Demonstrates critical thinking and creative vendor evaluation to ensure supplies are available based on facility need. Understands the correlation of the Buyer function in the delivery of quality patient care and the ability to provide continuous services.
