Scientist III/IV, Molecular Biologist - Cardio-Metabolic

The successful candidate is a skilled scientist with strong expertise in classical and novel molecular biology techniques and who is experienced in utilizing automation systems to assist with laboratory workflows.

The scientist will work on supporting advancement of drug targets in the field of cardio-metabolic diseases including target validation, mechanistic and functional assay development and molecule evaluation. This position will support ongoing efforts to automate manual workflows and processes onto a semi-automated/fully automated robotics platform.

Duties & Responsibilities:
Conducts scientific research utilizing molecular biology techniques, interprets experimental results and integrates them with project objectives
Responsible for technical leadership of automation systems relevant to molecular biology techniques
Collaborates with peers and cross functional teams and provides technical guidance in areas of expertise
Effectively organizes and communicate results and findings internally within and across departments as well as externally

Required Skills and Abilities:
Experience with nucleic acid sample preparation technologies (e.g. primer design, RT-qPCR etc.) from human tissue and cell lines – FFPE preparations a plus
Knowledge in plasmid construct design, agarose gel electrophoresis, RNA/DNA purification, sequencing and sequence analysis
Proven experience in modern molecular biology techniques (e.g. PCR optimization, troubleshooting) and related primary data analysis
Experience in running automation and high throughput instrumentation including liquid handlers (Beckman Biomek) and library preparations
Agility in prioritizing efforts and ability to multi-task to deliver on commitments
Ability to work in a fast-paced collaborative environment while maintaining a high level of attention to detail

Desired Skills and Abilities:
Familiarity with generating AAV, lentiviral, minicircle and other gene delivery vectors
Ability to manipulate cells using plasmid and siRNA transfection and viral transduction
ddPCR™, Next Generation Sequencing (Illumina® HiSeq, NextSeq) and single cell microfluidic platforms (Fluidigm, 10x Genomics) a plus
Ability to work with Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)

Scientist III Requirements:
Master’s Degree with 3+ years' experience in related scientific discipline or Bachelor’s Degree with 7+ years' experience in related scientific discipline or equivalent experience in related field

Scientist IV Requirements:
Master’s Degree with 6+ years' experience in related scientific discipline or Bachelor’s Degree with 10+ years' experience in related scientific discipline or equivalent experience in related field

Additional Requirements:
Supplemental technical courses in area of expertise
Ability to operate laboratory equipment with independence
Ability to draft technical reports
Demonstrate written and verbal communication skills
Concise and accurate reporting of technical data and interpretation thereof
Proven problem solving ability
Able to act for supervisor in his/her absence
Appropriate level of understanding of applicable regulations

Eligibility Requirements:
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required)
Must be 18 years of age or older
