The Pratt Library is accepting accepting applications for a Library Associate I position for the State Library Resource Center Division (SLRC) to provide reference, information, and patron services.

This position reports to the department manager.

Summary of Duties:
The summary of duties listed below is not exhaustive. Additional duties are dependent upon the needs of the hiring department.

Research and answer reference and information questions for library patrons.

Advise on the selection of and select books and materials for library patrons.

Interpret library rules and policies for library patrons.

May work on departmental projects such as filing library reference materials, arranging and maintaining map collections, indexing directories, and indexing special information files and documents.

Participate with library staff in planning special library patron programs.

Prepare reports on special library patron programs and activities.

May serve on various library committees.

Advise library patrons and the general public on library programs, activities, and services.

Answer specialized patron questions or requests on information, in person or over the telephone, concerning consumer, government, health, social services, welfare matters, or refer patrons to the appropriate agencies.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university; some experience in library or related public service work preferred. Must obtain Library Associate Training (LATI) within 2 years of being hired.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of some library principles, techniques, and systems. Ability to provide reference and information services to library patrons. Ability to advise library patrons and the general community on library resources, programs, activities, and services. Ability to provide information to and answer the questions of library patrons. Ability to assist and participate with professional library staff in performing library work. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with library patrons, library staff and the general community. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
