This position is responsible for analyzing and providing credit decisions (approve, counter-offer, or decline the application) on complex larger dollar Business Banking loan applications within a system-enabled infrastructure. Loan types include unsecured, real-estate secured, and other secured credit.
Analyze Business Banking loan applicants’ and guarantors’ credit worthiness using consumer credit bureau reports, internal loan performance data, and individual ability to repay.
Analyze borrower(s) and guarantor(s) ability to repay by calculating the personal debt service coverage and the global debt service coverage. Use company financial reports, personal financial statements, and tax returns (with associated schedules). Higher dollar value loan requests place a heavy emphasis on analyzing company financial reports as well as credit worthiness and ability to repay of multiple guarantors.
Evaluate the large complex exposures $1MM to $2MM in total credit exposure, typically involving more than one entity and multiple guarantors.
Serve as mentor and trainer for junior underwriters; responsible at times for teammate loan concurrences.
Evaluate loan request for adherence to Union’s policies related to credit characteristics, loan-to-value (LTV), and ability to repay.
Approve, decline, or counter-offer the credit request based on the review of applications.
Work closely with Commercial Relationship Managers in offering suggestions on how to structure complex deals in order to reach approval.
Assess the suitability of a loan application to warrant an override of a decline and fully document override reasons.
Stay up-to-date on all regulations related to Business Banking lending.
Ensure all loan applications are processed within Union’s compliance and fair lending framework.
Work with Union teammates who originate loan applications to ensure all necessary documents are collected and other information is documented (as needed).

Education & Experience
Education – Bachelor’s degree required
Experience – 5 or more years’ experience in a loan underwriting-related role. Knowledge of drivers of credit decisioning of business loan products (unsecured, real-estate secure, other secured products)
