Reporting to the Global Corporate Controller, the Assistant Controller will serve as a key financial advisor to senior management, working closely with the Chief Operating Officer, Chief Financial Officer and Global Corporate Controller. S/He will oversee managers directly responsible for all aspects of corporate accounting operations including maintenance and enforcement of accounting policies and procedures in accordance with GAAP and SEC requirements, ensuring the integrity of the company's financial data and reporting.
By working collaboratively with the various business units, the Assistant Controller will ensure appropriate accounting and internal controls are present and operating efficiently across the organization. The ability to manage day-to-day operational and technical accounting and reporting activities, project manage process improvements and lead other functional and management initiatives while meeting key objectives and deadlines is critical for success.
This role requires an experienced, collaborative accounting professional with strong leadership and people management skills. The Assistant Controller must be able to think strategically as well as ensure efficient and effective day-to-day operations.
Ensure that internal and external accounting and financial reporting is delivered in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and applicable guidance.
Comply with all regulatory (e.g., SEC) reporting requirements, including the preparation of consolidated financial statements, footnotes and management’s discussion and analysis for SEC reporting forms
Oversee the preparation of financial reports to provide corporate management with pertinent information and analysis on the operating results of the business units.
Lead the accounting team in ensuring consistent implementation of corporate accounting principles and procedures in full compliance with US GAAP and SEC reporting requirements.
Analysis of financial performance and the ability to effectively articulate this performance verbally and in writing to senior management.
Research technical accounting issues to ensure appropriate accounting treatment. Understand, implement, and monitor pending FASB proposals, and communicate their timing and potential effects.
Develop future financial leaders through talent development, training and mentoring of individuals, as well as staffing and recruiting of necessary skill sets.
Consult on accounting impact of proposed transactions and advise operating executives on alternative deal structures.
Interface with investor relations and assist with the development of analyst communications and presentations.
Supervise and manage the performance of the corporate accounting team in financial reporting, accounting and internal controls.
Manage audit processes, working with the external public accounting firm for the planning, coordination, and conduct of reviews and audits.
Identify and implement opportunities to promote streamlined processes, financial systems, operational efficiencies and enhanced internal controls.
Develop and build relationships with the leaders of verticals with an eye toward truly understanding the business and solving issues as a business partner to operational leadership.
Ensure the effectiveness and adequacy of policies, procedures, and controls for the company and creating new and improved mechanisms, policies, and procedures when necessary.
Exhibit flexibility and willingness to take on new responsibilities and assignments as they are identified and to assist with various ad hoc projects as needed.

Education and Experience
Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in progressively larger financial leadership roles.
CPA with expertise in technical accounting policies, procedures and treatments in accordance with US GAAP and SEC reporting requirements.
Prior/current experience in a nationally recognized public accounting and / or the accounting function of a large multi-national firm highly-valued.
A demonstrated record of success within a publicly-traded, global organization.
Experience working collaboratively with general managers and other financial functions.
Demonstrated track record for building world-class accounting and finance teams through recruitment, motivation and development of exceptional talent. Someone who can assess capability gaps, build plans for addressing organizational needs, and drive change.
A proven track record of instilling core finance processes and controls and leading process improvements to accounting and close processes.
Prior / current industry experience with multi-channel consumer goods company high-valued.
Demonstrated ability to stay current with emerging trends and relevant accounting pronouncements that impacts accounting and financial reporting.
Self-motivated, hands on, detail oriented with the ability to take the initiative, multi-task and remain flexible with changing priorities. Ability to adapt to rapid change and think creatively.
Skilled leader who effectively leads his/her group by clearly communicating expectations, following through on deliverables and providing input and direction to ensure the accurate and timely development and communication of financial data.
Demonstrated skills in supervising, coaching staff, and creating high performing teams, and experience managing a diverse international team is an asset.
Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills which will allow ready establishment of credibility and acceptance by the leadership team and peers.
