The Clinical Research Nurse (CRN) will work under the direct supervision of the Clinical Research Manager. As an integral member of the clinical research team, the Clinical Research Nurse will provide direct nursing care to research study participants. This role serves as an expert research resource for clinical research operations, including quality management, patient safety, regulatory compliance, and fiscal oversight. Additional responsibilities include providing research participant(s) protocol-specific information, reinforcing compliance with protocol procedures, collecting research data as required, and providing direct nursing care as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Act as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide continuity of care to patients throughout various stages of treatment on protocol and follow-up
Screen, consent, educate, and enrolls patients on radiation oncology clinical trials at the New York Proton Center
Collaborate in research planning activities, working closely with principal investigators and research teams to help develop and review potential protocols
Prepare and schedule research patient visits, assisting investigators with toxicity assessments and patient compliance
Assess patient eligibility for inclusion in specific investigational studies
Maintain strict adherence to study requirements by all personnel involved with patients according to guidelines set forth in protocols
Directly responds to inquiries regarding study protocol and policy
Manage inquiries from patients, investigators, physicians, and other clinical and research
Supervise quality assurance efforts, including the development and revision of Standard Operating Procedures, adherence to regulatory requirements, and incorporate all quality initiatives into the clinical research processes
Educates patient and medical personnel as to required follow-up tests to be performed according to protocol
Communicate effectively and work cooperatively with other departments and team members. Work with and train clinical research coordinators, as assigned. Have respect for and understanding of other clinical and non-clinical disciplines
Complete regulatory documentation and submissions, as necessary for clinical protocols, including cooperative group federally-funded trials
Perform basic laboratory draws/activities as needed
Participate in tumor boards and other committees, as assigned
Facilitate an environment of quality and safety consistent with NYPC leadership expectations
Comply with all NYPC policies related to Privacy Rules established under the Health Information Privacy and Portability Act of 1996 (HIPAA)
Perform other job-related duties, as assigned
Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing, required
Valid New York State RN license, required
BLS Certification, required
3 years clinical Nursing experience, preferred
Previous oncology experience, preferred
Knowledge and experience with research protocols and regulatory or governing bodies, which includes HIPAA and FDA regulations
Hands on experience with medical software and MS Office
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Attention to detail and problem solving skills
This position is a full-time position (37.5 hours/week). The working environment can be considered fast paced at times, requiring direct patient interaction. The Clinical Research Nurse will be required to maintain a high level of professionalism in all patient/visitor interactions.
