Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
Experience in performance debugging of single-node systems.
Experience in experimental design, analysis, and performance tools.
Experience analyzing and tuning operating systems, compilers, networking, IO subsystems, and/or accelerators.
Knowledge and experience in debugging performance of multi-node (distributed) systems.
Understanding of experimental and statistical methods and tools for performance analysis.

The Service Quality team within Looker Engingeering Operations is primarily focused on engineering tools and processes that enable delivery of a high-quality customer experience with every release. This includes release engineers, software engineers in test, and software performance engineers.
Software Performance Engineers at Looker are responsible for identifying and effecting performance improvements in the most critical areas of Looker, ensuring performance regressions don't find their way into the product through normal feature development, and consulting on customer performance escalations.
This role has the opportunity to deep-dive into all areas of the Looker codebase both to improve performance in specific areas and instrument code for more efficient insight into performance by members of both development and technical support engineers.
Looker is a unified platform that powers data experiences and delivers actionable business insights to employees at the point of decision. Looker integrates data into the daily workflows of users to allow organizations to extract value from data at web-scale.
Design and develop tools and test scenarios to evaluate the impact of system changes on performance.
Build and use instrumentation and tools to assist in monitoring and analyzing performance.
Deep dive into performance anomalies to discover root cause in both single and multi-node systems.
Work with product engineers to design systems and components with performance in mind, considering both algorithmic and system-level criteria.
