Full Job Description
The Baltimore Leadership School for Young (BLSYW) is looking to welcome a committed and effective Middle School Science Teacher to complement our highly qualified team of middle and high school educators. You will be responsible for preparing and implementing a full educational teaching plan according to the students' needs, school expectations, and state standards. It will be fundamental to provide knowledge and instruction to students while also helping them develop their personalities and skills.
The ideal candidate will be passionate about teaching girls with the ability to connect to students and create a relationship of mutual trust. They will know how to organize a class and make learning an easy and meaningful process. The goal is to help cultivate the students’ interest in education and be their dedicated ally in the entire process of learning and development.
Responsibilities
- Present lessons in a comprehensive manner and use visual/audio means to facilitate learning
- Provide individualized instruction to each student by promoting interactive learning
- Create and distribute educational content (notes, summaries, assignments, etc.)
- Assess and record students’ progress and provide grades and feedback
- Maintain an orderly virtual and/or hybrid learning environment conducive to teaching and learning
- Collaborate with school leadership, other instructional and non-instructional staff, families, and stakeholders and participate in regular meetings
- Plan and execute educational in-class, virtual, and experiential activities and events aligned to the school's mission and students' needs
- Observe and understand students’ behavior, social and emotional wellbeing and report suspicions of neglect, abuse, and or maltreatment
- Develop and enrich professional skills and knowledge by attending seminars, conferences, etc.
Skills
- Three years of urban teaching experience
- A belief that all girls can learn science at high levels
- Proven experience as an effective Middle School Science teacher
- Thorough knowledge of teaching best practices and educational guidelines partnered with a willingness to follow the school’s policies and procedures
- Excellent communicability and interpersonal skills
- Well-organized and committed
- Creative and energetic
- Strong moral values and discipline
- Knowledge of CPR
- Bachelors Degree in mathematics, education or related content area
- Valid teaching certificate (or eligibility to receive) in Elementary or Secondary Science
