QUALIFICATIONS
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of three years professional fund raising, corporate and foundation relations, development program management, sales, marketing, or closely related experience with emphasis on relationship cultivation of individuals/businesses.
  • Demonstrated ability promoting and successfully soliciting gifts/sales, managing a prospect/client portfolio, designing and implementing cultivation and solicitation strategies and ensuring follow-up activities and stewardship, or comparable experience in industry.
  • Proven experience working directly with corporate partners.
  • Demonstrated strong deadline management ability as well as excellent written and oral communication skills, organizational skills, planning, problem solving and an ability to work as part of a professional institutional advancement team.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize, manage multiple, simultaneous projects and to work efficiently and independently.
  • Excellent research and analytic skills.
  • Working knowledge of PC software and database familiarity (Microsoft packages preferred)
  • Must possess creative thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, both one-on-one and in group settings. The ability to engage and collaborate successfully with individuals at all levels within and outside of the organization including staff, faculty, alumni, students and volunteers from across the University.
  • Self-motivated and have a strong personal commitment to the University’s mission.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree, preferably an MBA or related degree.
  • Experience working in an academic or corporate environment.
  • Experience working in medical fundraising, sales or R&D
  • Experience working as a corporate and/or foundation relations officer. Experienced and comfortable creating and presenting complex investment/gift proposals of $500,000+ to executive leadership within organizations. Development experience, including capital campaign experience, in higher education, health, or disease-related institution.
OVERVIEW
This position is responsible for planning and implementing giving strategies designed to maximize corporate and foundation support for the University of Minnesota. This position serves as a liaison between corporations and foundations and the University of Minnesota Foundation (UMF) with University leadership to identify mutual interests and the individuals who can implement partnerships leading to significant gift, grant or research funding potential. This individual is responsible for engaging corporation and foundations in the Academic Health Center.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage a Portfolio of Corporations and Foundation Prospects (CFR)
  • Build and manage a portfolio of approximately 40 corporate & foundation partners and donors on behalf of the University of Minnesota and its colleges and programs. Effectively present the case for engagement, philanthropic support and explaining gift opportunities at the University. Present corporate and foundation prospects with engagement and gift opportunities that best meet their needs, interests and financial circumstances.
  • Create and maintain strategies to secure major gifts of $50,000+ through, capital, major gifts and sponsored research proposals.
  • Serve as a representative of the University of Minnesota and its system campuses to engage corporations and foundations in opportunities that will enrich the educational experience of students, create research opportunities and generate net revenue for the University.
  • Identify a portfolio of corporations and foundation outside of Minnesota to cultivate and engage with the purpose of soliciting.
  • Lead the creation and implementation of strategies for select Corporate Engagement Workgroup donors.
  • Help align corporations and foundations business needs and interests with key University and Academic Health Center priorities to establish mutually beneficial relationships that will generate revenue for the University.
Medicine and Health Program & Campaign Management
  • Work with the Corporate and Foundation Relations and Med/Health development teams to identify, cultivate and solicit corporate and foundation prospects in support of the Medical School, healthcare system, and health sciences.
  • Work in coordination with the Corporate and Foundation Relations leadership and staff on corporate engagement as it relates to a comprehensive University campaign.
Liaison and Coordination across Development Programs and Services
  • Provide corporate and foundation relations support to Med/Health units as assigned.
  • Work with Med/Health faculty to host campus visits for companies and foundations.
  • Collaborate with UMF Prospect Development department to meet research needs in support of top Med/Health CFR prospects, ensuring up to date and useful information for briefings and proposals.
  • Collaborate with UMF donor relations to create stewardship reports and events/activities aimed at insuring high level of stewardship. Collaborate with other UMF departments and collegiate units to ensure prospect coordination, accurate data/information, and communications and materials in support of foundation relations. Partner with UMF communications to determine proposal-writing strategy and resource.
  • Work with CFR staff, as assigned to organize roles/responsibilities for U President, UMF CEO, AHC leadership, and UMF Development leadership involvement in relationship building and gift solicitation. Develop timelines and plans for engagement.
Organizational
  • Review research reports and files prior to donor visits. Complete, file and maintain accurate, thorough, relevant and timely reports and records of donor/prospect contacts including contact reports, acknowledgments, individual gift proposals and evaluations. Utilize database, employing discretion while recording information of relevance to appropriate individuals.
  • Attend University and external functions as recommended. Serve on committees as appropriate.
  • Handle other specific assignments as directed.
This position will require occasional weekend and evening attendance at various University and external functions and regular travel outside of Minnesota.
