The Group Controller is accountable for the accounting operations of the company, to include production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of a SOX compliant system of accounting controls designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company’s reported results and ensure the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles. The Group Controller has management responsibilities for the entire Accounting team.

What You’ll be Doing

People Management

Provide daily guidance and supervision to assigned staff
Prepare annual performance evaluations
Ensure training for staff
Serve as facilitator for personnel problems
Review, prepare, and update job descriptions
Participate in the interview process for open positions

Monthly Close & Reporting

Ensure staff meet closing schedule each month
Review and post all journal entries
Review and approve month-end account reconciliations
Review and approve monthly Roper Hyperion reports prior to submission
Assist with preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual forecasts
Assist with the preparation of the quarterly operating review package for the Corporate Office
Comply with SOX controls
Maintain and ensure compliance with the CBORD & Horizon authority matrices

Revenue Recognition and Billing

Keep current on changes in GAAP revenue recognition rules
Work closely with the Contracts, Order Entry, and Billing teams to:
Ensure revenue recognition on each contract is compliant with GAAP and understand how it interrelates with billing schedules and contract terms
Ensure accurate and timely invoicing and revenue recognition
Ensure accurate reviews of the revenue backlog and contracts in process reports at month-end
Ensure weekly monitoring of subscription invoicing, particularly in 2Q when the volume of customer annual fee renewals is highest
Ensure all month-end deadlines are met
Assist with workload management
Ensure excellent customer service both internally and externally
Work closely with the Accounts Receivable Supervisor on customer collections, cash projections, and service hold escalations

General Accounting

Work closely with the Accounting Manager on general accounting tasks, including:
Accounts Payable
Fixed Assets
Sales Taxes
Departmental Expenses
Accounting for two smaller international entities, Australia & Middle East branches
Assist with workload management
Ensure excellent customer service both internally and externally
Work closely with the Staff Accountants on month-end reporting and reconciliations
Liaison with the international tax advisors in preparation of the annual income tax returns, payroll withholding tax returns, fringe benefit tax returns, and other governmental filing
Manage the relationship with internal and external auditors

Sales Commissions

Guide the monthly sales commissions preparation and assist with clarifying grey areas

What You’ll Bring to the Table

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting desired
CPA License a requirement with excellent accounting knowledge
Knowledge of revenue accounting for software licensing and SaaS preferred
Five years of accounting-related experience required
Supervisory experience required
Ability to motivate staff and promote teamwork
Travel (~2 weeks per month) will be necessary initially, as the Accounting team is split between Ithaca, NY and Duluth, GA
Strong verbal and written communication skills with a proven ability to communicate financial issues and solutions to an audience that does not have a financial background
Experience in a public company environment preferred
Excellent analytical skills and advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
Excellent organizational and project management skills
Excellent understanding of internal controls
Excellent attention to detail
Excellent ability to produce quality deliverables with high deadline sensitivity
Experience with streamlining processes and change management
Experience with NetSuite is preferred
