Ashland has an exciting opportunity for a Research Scientist to join our Adhesives business at our Dublin, OH location. This is a very visible, significant role within the Company and the Product Development function. This position will report to a Senior Group Leader.
The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Plan and execute product development projects and tasks in pressure sensitive adhesives
Manage product development projects from definition through commercialization stages
Design and conduct emulsion acrylate polymerization reactions
Develop and prepare formulations and adhesive test samples
Conduct characterization and adhesive performance testing
Interface with other members of product development, technical service and sales
Create and conduct presentations at customers and industry symposia
Provide oral and written feedback to internal and external project stakeholders
**This job is based on a ladder structure and the job level (salary) will be determined by the quantity and quality of your experience.
In order to be qualified for this role, you must possess the following:
A minimum of a Ph. D. degree in polymer chemistry or organic chemistry.
10+ years industrial product development experience
Successful track record in technical innovation, pilot & manufacturing scale-up, and market launch including significant impact on sales volumes and profitability
Demonstrated ability to support core business functions including manufacturing, quality, customer support, marketing and raw material sourcing
Ability to travel up to 20%
Applicants must be authorized to work in the US
The following skill sets are preferred by the business unit:
D. degree in either synthetic or physical polymer chemistry, or closely related field
Expertise in these technical fields: pressure sensitive adhesives (PSA), acrylic polymers, emulsion polymerization, polymer characterization, PSA coating and converting
Experienced at managing individual contributors, especially technicians
Demonstrated experience in project management
