City Year Kansas City is seeking a Development Manager focused on frontline fundraising efforts to help the site reach its yearly revenue goal of over $2 million. The Development Manager will partner with site leadership to steward current donors and cultivate and solicit new individual, corporate, and foundation donors. Ideal candidates will have prior fundraising experience, a passion for improving educational outcomes for children, and confident communication skills.
Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES

Donor Stewardship/Management

Maintain a portfolio of current individual, corporate, and foundation donors
Create a stewardship calendar and implement specific activities throughout the year to thank, delight, and recognize current donors
Support and create engagements aimed at inspiring and motivating current donors to renew and/or increase their level of giving
Lead collaborative corporate engagements with City Year Team Sponsors and act as liaison between corporate partners and program staff/the schools
Track and record clear and timely records of contacts, donor history, and notes from donor meetings, and assist in the maintenance of the site’s internal donor database
Assist with report and proposal writing, when necessary
Support and assist with fundraising campaigns and events, such as the annual gala, Giving Tuesday, individual fundraising events, etc.
Donor Cultivation

Collaborate with the Development Director to identify new individual, corporate and foundation prospects and secure new donations to meet quarterly and annual fundraising goals
Lead and/or assist with all steps in the donor cultivation process, including solicitation meetings with potential donors
Develop and execute fundraising efforts that focus on small individual gifts (<$10,000), as well as supporting the strategy for major individual gifts (>$10,000)
Represent City Year Kansas City at events and engagements; attend networking opportunities to cultivate new donors
Support the efforts of City Year Kansas City’s Board of Directors in identifying and implementing fundraising strategies and brand awareness initiatives
Through school visits, individual meetings, events and other engagements, create opportunities to expose new donors to City Year’s program, strategy, and mission
Help cultivate relationships with, and confirm, Host Committee Members for City Year’s first Gala in the spring of 2019; help steward these relationships throughout the Gala planning process
Arrange logistics for school visits and work with school-based City Year teams to ensure AmeriCorps members and staff are prepared for visits from donors and donor prospects
Facilitate school visits with donors and donor prospects to showcase City Year’s program in action
Organization Initiatives and Site Support

Assist with the prepping and training of program staff and/or City Year AmeriCorps members that participate in fundraising events and cultivation engagements
Participate in cross-department collaboration groups aimed at achieving site-wide goals
Serve as staff lead for a City Year AmeriCorps member coordinator role and lead bi-monthly meetings
Attend regional and national City Year calls, meetings, and conferences focused on professional development, best practice sharing, and developing/communicating City Year’s long-term impact strategy
Experience Required

BA/BS degree
Minimum 3-5 years of experience in fundraising and/or sales, with proven ability to deliver strong, measurable results
Exceptional oral and written communication skills with an ability to engage and inspire a diverse range of audiences
Strong initiative and ability to work independently to achieve goals
Comfortability with meeting and networking with new people
Efficient time management skills with an ability to meet deadlines and prioritize multiple projects
Experience fundraising in the Kansas City area preferred, including knowledge of Kansas City’s high-net-worth philanthropic community, representative of corporations, foundations, and individuals
Collaborative spirt with willingness to work cross-departmentally to achieve big picture goals
Experience using Salesforce is helpful
