Full Job Description
The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith based organization, has a job opening for a Village Parent for The Salvation Army Children’s Village Home, located at the Area Command in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Provides stable, long-term live in care to foster children in need of substitute parental care at The Salvation Army Children’s Village home on a 24 hour per day schedule for up to six children in a Village Home. Works as part of a professional team to ensure the educational, medical, emotional and spiritual needs of the children are met. The Village Parent, will respect the religious and cultural background of each child. The parent will be responsible for the teaching of life skills to children so that the children can become productive adults.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must have an understanding of child development and is able to utilize this knowledge in developing individual plans for each child in relation to skill development and to behavior management. Requires the implementation and maintaining a budget for the home, scheduling, structure to ensure for a safe, healthy, sanitary environment.
Ability to remain calm in crisis management, high level of integrity, interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence and provides the moral and spiritual developmental needs of the children in the home through planned activities fostering nurture and development.
Responds to emergencies and initiates appropriate action, including corrective action, in accordance with established policy and procedures. This position requires computer knowledge, ability to track progress notes. Requires ability to meet attendance requirements, and communicate the English language as the primary language. Should have some crises intervention skills.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or G.E.D. required
Five-years’ experience working in a foster care or children’s therapeutic care environment.
Licenses and Certifications
Valid Florida driver’s license is required, acceptable driving record per The Salvation Army’s vehicle Insurance requirements. This job does require a full background screening, (FDLE), criminal check, local law checks, drug screening, child abuse and neglect registry, CPR, First Aid Certification. Maintain Serv Safe®, Food handler certification by The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services, and all other ongoing certifications required by the organization’s policies and procedures, and Divisional Of Children’s Families (DCF).
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Requires standing, sitting, bending, walking, cleaning, stooping, lifting, for periods of time. Requires time at a computer screen and maybe exposed to outside elements as needed and required.
