The Network Security Engineer should possess strong multi-tasking skills and enthusiasm for details and should think one step ahead of cybercriminals. They should be well prepared to deal with high-stress situations and thrive in a fast-paced environment. Alternatively, the Network Security Engineer will be responsible for configuration, and administration of many different pieces of network and security-related hardware and software. These include firewalls, routers, switches, various network-monitoring tools, and virtual private networks (VPNs).
Review and enhance network posture/performance through proactive monitoring of the network and infrastructure.
Support firewall upgrades and new firewall builds.
Develop, enhance, and implement network security tools such as:
Cisco Unified Communications
Firewalls (CheckPoint / Cisco ASA)
Cisco ISE (Identity Services Engine)
F5 Load Balancers
Analyze and proactively create network solutions for operational needs that present security challenges.
Ensure best practices of security requirements are deployed for an information system
Provide technical support to design, develop, engineer and implement security requirements such as CIS/DISA STIGS for new and existing hardware, networks, and applications
Develop assessment programs
Perform packet capture and analysis
Perform network security utilizing VRF, GRE access control list ACL and IPsec.
Assist with cyber incidents as necessary
Assist with forensics and analysis when appropriate
Comment on new ODNI/NIST standards / regulations as applies to client environment
Employ best practices when implementing security requirements and working on or in a system
Must have U.S. Citizenship
Ten (10) years information assurance experience and/or cyber security experience with a bachelor's degree in a technical field. A minimum of five (5) years technical experience effectively providing network and/or system administration, information assurance security, testing, and evaluation.
Cisco orientated IOS understanding, working with Routers and Switch Platforms and Experience working with stakeholders at an Operational Level
CISCO, CCNP, CCNA, CCIE, CCSA, FCNSP, CISSP, SSCP, CEH, GIAC, Security +, OSCP, CompTIA Server+, MCSE, LPIC, CompTIA Cloud+, VCP, or CCSE
Experience in leading cyber exercises is preferred
Hands-on experience and knowledge implementing, configuring, integrating and supporting the network security with Checkpoint, F5 Load balancers, BigIP LTM, GTM, IPAM, Cisco ISE, Palo Alto, Juniper, BlueCoast security solutions, or Fortinet. (Not all are needed but the more you have, the more advantages you accrue in securing a job)
Effective interpersonal and presentation skills, and the ability to communicate in written and oral form, publication, or presentation experiences a plus
Experience reporting IT Security events/incidents in the time prescribed based on policies and procedures
Knowledge of virtualization
Experience with forensics tools, Encase, IDA PRO, Wireshark, or similar capabilities, is preferred
Experience securing and hardening cloud service providers and their resources preferrable Azure
Strong understanding with high availability, VLAN, NAT, NAT64, IPv6, F5 Virtual Servers, policy-based forwarding and URL filtering
Experience working with IP networking protocols and understanding of security related technologies including VPN, PKI and DNS
Experience with Network Access Control (NAC), preferably Cisco ISE.
Experience with PAM, preferrable Safeguard
Experience with TCP/IP networking
Background knowledge of LAN/WAN best practices.
Scripting knowledge with PowerShell, Python, Bash or similar
Extensive technical experience with security network devices (switches, antivirus, firewalls, cryptography, SIEM) and any other security networking hardware or software tools
