The Director of Finance (DOF) for Star Wellness is an important and highly visible position responsible for providing financial management oversight & support to all levels of leadership throughout Star Wellness. The DOF will serve as the primary point of contact for all financial and data analytic issues related to Star Wellness and is expected to have a thorough understanding of the drivers that influence its financial and operational performance. The DOF will work collaboratively with all departments (accounting, finance, operations & executive leadership) to ensure timely and accurate completion of all financial & data analytic needs for Star Wellness. The DOF will actively participate in entity specific strategic & operational planning and forecasting initiatives. This position is also responsible for the coordination of the annual operating budget process, periodic forecasting (as needed), along with financial analysis of existing and/or newly proposed service offerings. Given the collaborative nature of this position, the DOF may also be involved with various Center based initiatives that may extend outside the boundaries of their assigned entity.

Please note the selected candidate and new hire will be an employee of Star Wellness and not St. Luke’s University Health Network. Star Wellness, affiliated with St. Luke’s University Health Network, is an organization comprised of community based clinics and sites providing healthcare services to our local populations. New hire(s) will be recruited and hired via St. Luke’s University Health Network, but will transition to become a Star Wellness employee following the commencement of new hire onboarding.

Provides guidance to the Center’s finance, accounting and revenue cycle departments. Develop and produce statistics, metrics and analysis that accurately depict the operating performance of the Center and develops recommendations based on the information to achieve optimal operating performance. Develops process improvements to produce more accurate and meaningful business intelligence, to ensure the Center performs at an efficient and cost effective level. Assists provider compensation team members in the development of forecasting and modeling tools to more efficiently administer, manage and possibly redesign provider compensation methodologies for Star Wellness employed providers. Provides financial due diligence for the Center related to acquisition activity, which may include review of valuation reports prepared by independent consultants and recommendations regarding proposed acquisitions. Participates in third party payor contracting strategies as a Star Wellness representative to the Center’s third-party contracting team. Participates in the preparation of the monthly financial statements for the Center, which includes preparation and review of journal entries, account analysis, review of statistics, financial statement compilation, and a financial analysis narrative. Review accuracy of the general ledger and resulting financial statements for Star Wellness – this may include review of general ledger analysis and reconciliation. Coordinate and / or perform financial and expense variance analysis of existing and proposed practice / programs and supports entity specific strategic initiatives through analytics and scenario modeling. Coordinates with Center’s Budget & Forecasting department to prepare and develop the annual operating and capital budget for Star Wellness – this may include working directly with entity management to prepare an accurate annual budget and coordinating with other Center personnel to ensure all operational factors are applied. Assembles statistics for budget / forecast projections by coordinating the collection and analysis of information and recommendations from Entity and Center management. Monitors approved budgets by producing periodic variance analysis reports and communicating with the appropriate management team. Manages the process to update and adjust the forecast drivers when appropriate to ensure accurate modeling & forecasting. Assists, when necessary, in the development of financial and operational presentations related to Star Wellness initiatives for senior management, board of directors, other committees, etc. Provides education and support to department heads and administrative staff on financial processes, reports and analytics. Coordinates departmental training and ensures effective communication throughout the entity on all finance related issues. Assists in preparation of information and reporting requirements for federal and other regulatory bodies as needed. Assists in development of financial & accounting policies and procedures. Maintains confidentiality of all materials handled within the Center / Entity as well as the proper release of information. Complies with Center and departmental policies regarding issues of employee, patient and environmental safety and follows appropriate reporting requirements. Demonstrates / models the Center’s Service Excellence Standards of Performance in interactions with all customers (internal and external). Demonstrates financial responsibility and accountability through the effective and efficient use of resources in daily procedures, processes and practices. Complies with Center and departmental policies regarding attendance and dress code.

Sitting up to 7 hours per day, 3 hours at a time. Continuously uses fingers and hands for typing, data entry, etc. Uses upper extremities to lift up to 30 pounds. Frequently stoops, bends, and reaches above shoulder level. Hearing as it relates to normal conversation and telephone. Seeing as it relates to general vision, near vision and peripheral vision. Visual monotony when reading reports and reviewing computer screen.



MOST COMPLEX DUTY: Thorough understanding of the assigned entity and the drivers that influence performance and ability to identify and clearly explain them to management.

Professional written and oral communication skills required to work with entity/center managers, third party auditors, and administrations.

Solid analytical and problem-solving skills. Must be able to meet deadlines on a recurring basis. Initiative ability to problem solve independently. PC skills (Excel and Word), verbal and written communication skills, organization skills, interpersonal skills, cooperation/team work, etc. Ability to perform the essential functions of this position, with or without reasonable accommodation and without posing a direct threat to the health and safety of self or others.

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration. Master’s preferred.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: 10 years progressive experience in financial planning and analysis in a large multi-specialty physician organization with 5 years management experience preferred.


WORK SCHEDULE: Usually day shift – Monday through Friday; additional hours as needed. Minimum 40 hours per week.
