Description of Work Unit
The School of Music, Theatre and Dance at Colorado State University has 36 tenured and tenure-track faculty, 40 adjunct faculty, and 23 staff members. The Dance Program within the School of MTD offers a BA degree in Dance and currently enrolls 40 majors along with students from across the university. The dance program produces two formal faculty/guest artist concerts and two student productions per year. Collaboration thrives in the School of Music, Theatre and Dance with students, faculty, and staff engaged in frequent collaborative projects featuring performance, choreography, and theatrical production and design for dance concerts, operas, musical theatre, and plays. The dance program is a member of the American College Dance Association, the National Dance Education Organization, and the Colorado Dance Education Organization. Colorado State University dance alumni enjoy professional careers as performers, choreographers, teachers, physical therapists, directors, and in other related fields. The dance program is located in the University Center for the Arts, a unique venue for music, theatre, dance, art, and fashion design/merchandising performances and exhibitions. The University Center of the Arts is a nationally recognized state of the art 350,000 square foot facility, that includes a 550-seat music concert hall, a 275-seat organ and chamber music recital hall, a 320-seat thrust theatre, a 100-seat black box theatre, a 192-seat dance theatre, dedicated rehearsal, production and research spaces, along with classrooms, labs and practice rooms. The University Dance Theatre is a fully convertible theatre that doubles as a 40 X 50’ studio. The dance facilities also feature two beautiful dance studios measuring 60 X 40’ and 40 X 30’, fully sprung Harlequin Liberty Panel dance floors, oak barres, mirrors, audio stations for teaching and rehearsals, grand and upright pianos, world percussion instruments, and natural light. Colorado State University is a land grant institution with a student enrollment of approximately 30,000 students in over 150 programs, and a faculty numbering 1,700. The College of Liberal Arts, within which the school is located, is the largest college in the University. Colorado State University is located in Fort Collins, Colorado, a beautiful city of 150,000 located in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, 65 miles north of Denver. Outside magazine has named Fort Collins an “editor’s choice” for its “America’s Best Towns 2013” edition.

The School of Music, Theatre and Dance seeks full time or part time temporary or special Dance Instructors to teach a variety of courses including technique, choreography, and introduction to dance, etc.
Applicants are added to the pool list throughout the calendar year. Hiring decisions are made during the late spring and early summer for fall semester, during the early fall semester for spring and during the spring semester for the summer term.

Required Job Qualifications
Requirements for this position are a bachelor’s degree in dance OR a minimum of 5 years of extensive professional teaching and performing dance experience.
Preferred Job Qualifications
Documented teaching experience at the college or university level.
