Why does the job exist?
The incumbent of this position is responsible for the protection and management of natural and cultural resources, public safety and law enforcement functions, visitor services, interpretation/education programs, facility management and maintenance for Bottomless Lakes State Park. The incumbent will have a strong background regarding Department, Division and Park Policy, and will ensure goals and objectives are met through the supervision of staff specialists responsible for the many park programs which include: public land use and management, administration, budget and finance, human resources, development and care of trails, boating safety, equipment and tool maintenance, volunteers, marketing and public relations, while following policy, procedures and regulations established by the applicable federal and state government agencies.
How does it get done?
Supervise and oversee the management of the operations and maintenance at Bottomless Lakes State Park, including implementation of day to day operations according to the policies, procedures and standards of care; tracking and implementation of all programs relating to the basic operations and maintenance of the park. Oversight of all law enforcement activities and requirements for the park and subordinate LEO staff. Programs include interpretive, trails, reservations, ADA, Safety/ OSHA, YCC and all maintenance and preventative maintenance programs. Purchases of $1500.00 or more need prior approval.
Addressing personnel issues and working with other agencies. Ensure the safety of our staff and visitors.
Who are the customers?
Services and facilities provided for all park visitors, internal staff, and protection of resources for the State of New Mexico.
Ideal Candidate
Bachelor's degree in Park Administration, Natural Resources, or related field. Five years of experience in parks management, three of which should be as a manager. Customer service experience required.
Minimum Qualification
A Bachelor's Degree in any field of study from an accredited college or university and five (5) years of professional level experience operating within parameters and guidelines directly related to the purpose of the position defined by the agency at the time of recruitment. Any required licensure, certification or registration shall be defined at the time of recruitment and will be in addition to the above requirements.

Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. A pre-employment background investigation, fitness test, physical, psychological exam and drug tests are required and conditional pending results. Become a certified Law Enforcement Officer from NM Law Enforcement Academy within one (1) year of acceptance to the Academy. Extensive travel in region wide area. Willing to accept assignment/transfer to another geographic location. Random drug testing. Park housing will be required if housing is available.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage.
