Wilson Elser’s IT department currently seeks an IT Network & Telecom Manager to join the team.

This position can be based in either our NYC Downtown office located at 125th Broad Street office or our Florham Park office.

The Position

The IT Network & Telecom Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, and managing 6 to 8 staff members, contractors/consultants, with a focus on ensuring the stable operation of the organization’s Network & Telecom environment. This includes developing, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing key functional areas, such as the WAN, LAN, network switches, routers and firewalls. He/she will also schedule and direct activities to resolve outages/issues in a timely and accurate fashion. This position will play a key role contributing to the current and future strategic technology direction for this “Top 50” (National Law Journal) Firm of over 1,600 personnel and 40 plus regional offices.

This management position will provide guidance for technology platform transformation for new network technology solutions, assisting in the building of strategic roadmaps for the short, medium and long term for network technologies. This resource must be a strong leader of projects, internal resources and external vendors/service providers, and exhibit the ability to perform on a strategic and transformational level with other IT management at the Firm.


Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
Minimum of 7 years’ experience leading a Network department and strategic projects
ITIL Certification is preferred
Cisco Certification is preferred
Extensive experience leading network & telecom teams inclusive of scope, scheduling, budgeting, and project planning in an environment with aggressive delivery goals
Expertise with vendor management, negotiation and oversight of vendor resources
Experience transforming teams through technology, organization, culture, process, and business change management
Must have proven ability configuring, optimizing, managing and implementing multiple protocols including OSPF and BGP
Must have proven ability configuring, optimizing, managing and implementing data carrying/WAN protocols: MPLS and VPLS
5+ year’s technical experience supporting distributed WAN infrastructures and carriers
5+ year’s technical experience managing service providers
Experience with Cisco Unified Call Manager and Jabber preferred
Ability to self manage projects, and providers in a senior capacity
Must have hands on experience with Cisco WAN/LAN
Must have hands on experience with Cisco firewalls
Ability to make sound and logical judgments

Manage and set priorities for the design, maintenance, development, and evaluation of all network systems
Provide hands-on project management for strategic firm-wide initiatives, inclusive of technology selection, effort, timeline, cost, resource allocation, network engineering, RFP/SOW creation, vendor selection/management, solution delivery, and implementation
Prepare RFPs, bid proposals, contracts, scope of work reports, and other documentation for network and telecom projects and associated efforts
Ability to decompose large initiatives into constituent projects and executable technology delivery goals.
Oversee 2nd and 3rd level network support for the firm on a 24x7 basis, with on-call support during off-hours for initial response to disruptions, outages and incidents
Design and implement short- and long-term strategic plans to ensure network capacity meets existing and future requirements
Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training plans for network administration and project management.
Work with peer IT Department Managers to provide input into the departmental vision and strategic road map for technical platforms
Establish and maintain regular written and in-person communications with the senior management, decision-makers, stakeholders, department managers, and end users regarding pertinent activities.
Provide financial budgeting for projects and resources for both initial capital investment and annual operating costs
Provide organizational and cultural change leadership and change management.
Build a culture of pro-activity, business cooperation, continuous improvement, and exceptional service delivery.
Conducts research and feasibility studies on leading edge technologies and provides cost/benefit analysis for their implementation
Provide vendor management and SLA adherence on our multiple WAN vendors and network/telecom service suppliers
Provide recommendations/suggestions for network/telecom hardware, WAN optimizations and efficiencies
Proven ability to design, implement and manage Cisco firewalls
Develop a robust, right sized and scalable network/telecom strategy
Stay current with trends in WAN, network, telecom, security and cloud computing
Monitor performance of enterprise applications running on the WAN/LAN platform
