Job Summary and Mission
This job contributes to Starbucks success by leading multiple large-scale complex compliance-related projects across the enterprise and has the capability to inform and influence senior leaders. Serves as regional I&D director supporting North America retail operations with I&D policies and practices. The role’s purpose is to build systems and processes that create greater equity and drive inclusive behaviors. Supports leaders across the client group and works cross-functionally across areas of excellence and with business partners in Partner Resources. Models inclusive leadership behaviors that are grounded in Starbucks Mission and Values.
Summary of Key Responsibilities
Establish and provide guidance to a regional I&D Council in each region across North America
Analyze performance data to establish a business case and measure impact of I&D
Promote continuous learning and dialogue on I&D topics
Provide PRO business partners and people leaders with consultation and tools to effectively implement I&D initiatives and address opportunities
Sets goals for the work or project group, developing organizational capability and a plan to develop it, and modeling how we partner across the organization
Identifies and communicates key responsibilities and practices to ensure the organization promotes a successful attitude, confidence in leadership, and teamwork to achieve business results.
Influences multiple and varied stakeholders at various levels across the organization to achieve inclusion and diversity goals.
Supports the implementation of company programs, procedures, methods and practices to promote Starbucks key messages and achieve a competitive advantage.
Develops strategic and operational plans for the work group, managing execution, and measuring results.
Plans and manages business unit and department processes and practices to ensure that programs are aligned with company business goals and objectives.
Collaborates with business units to establish plans, systems, processes and procedures to support key priorities for the inclusion and diversity initiatives of internal client groups.
Integrates accountability for progressive expertise and knowledge of inclusion and diversity competency into the business unit plan.
Develops and maintains relationships with internal client groups to plan and implement inclusion and diversity initiatives and to ensure alignment with their talent and development goals.
Develops annual operating plan and budget, and quarterly forecast updates.
Develops long-term strategies and plans.
Provides functional expertise in executing functional responsibilities.
Utilizes a data-oriented approach to identify opportunities, interventions, and initiatives for improvement across placement, retention, and promotion of talent.
Consults with business units regarding organization and partner development, serves as a resource on best practices and recommends alternative strategies and tactics.
Leads and advises leaders in the implementation of inclusion and diversity programs to ensure the success of the Starbucks I&D strategy, programs, measures, and results.
Guides assigned teams and senior leadership through the execution of the I&D strategy through education and consultation.
Identifies and collaborates with qualified external consultants and contractors as needed, managing and monitoring their work.
Develops systems and methods for measuring the impact of the company’s inclusion and diversity initiatives.
Builds strong relationships both inside and outside of the team to ensure cross-group collaboration and connection.
Participates in cross-functional business planning to improve implementation of I&D programs, procedures, methods and practices to promote business unit key messages and achieve a competitive advantage.
Manages multiple projects and processes to support and enhance organizational effectiveness.
Participates in the development of and facilitates the implementation of change management initiatives.
Attends seminars and business conferences as appropriate.
Provides partners with coaching, feedback, and developmental opportunities and building effective teams:

Oversees training and development of partners directly and indirectly managed and makes effective staffing decisions.
Conducts and ensures completion of partner development conversations and talent planning.
Leads 3-7 direct reports with subject matter expertise in retail operations.
Experience leading large scale, cross-functional project with significant impact and involving people from multiple levels
Experience influencing broadly up, down, and across the enterprise to mobilize partners to support program deliverables in balance with their day to day priorities
Leadership, development and management of direct reports
Progressive multi-unit experience in retail including experience as a director 7 – 10 years
Bachelor's degree and work experience and training in cultural diversity, as well as human resource management and retail operations.
At least 10 years of life experience working closely with people from different backgrounds
Ability to apply sound business principles and practices to project management and change management processes: 7-10 years
Ability to influence through strong interpersonal, diplomatic, and negotiation skills to assist groups in achieving alignment: 7-10 years
Strong analytical and financial skills, including financial planning and analysis and business case development: 7-10 years
Proven ability to navigate and problem solve within a fast-paced dynamic environment with high degree of ambiguity to deliver large and complex projects: 7-10 years
Ability to function effectively and independently in a highly ambiguous environment with the flexibility to change course as required to respond to new situations: 7-10 years
Ability to work collaboratively within a complex business environment and effectively utilize available subject matter experts and cross-functional leaders 7-10 years
Ability to lead, motivate, and effectively manage a professional staff and provide vision for the goals and direction of the team 7-10 years
Mastery and proven proficiency in negotiating priorities across stakeholders, managing various levels of expectations 7-10 years
Ability to communicate with diverse audiences at all levels of the organization, delivering presentations and influencing senior leaders: 7-10 years
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Office 365: 7-10 years
