Starport NASA Exchange is looking go a karate instructor to teach children and adults the art of self-defense, self discipline and self confidence. The class will also focus on leadership, healthy competition, and sportsmanship. the instructor will provide assistance to the head instructor of the Shotokan Karate Program offered by Starport. Starport service is a quality of life program that directly supports the mission of the Johnson Space Center by providing a variety of support activities and employee services. Included are wellness programs, fitness, recreational services, food and vending services, retail operations, employee activities and convenience services..
Thursday Evenings, 5:30-6:30 PM and Saturday Mornings, 10:30 AM-1:15 PM
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Assists in the training and instruction of participants in basics and advanced karate techniques to provide a quality competitive environment to train and motivate young athletes and adults in the sport of karate; instructs karate team participants on safe karate techniques and physical training regimens
Assists in organizing and coordination karate team practices and physical workouts. May assist in taking registration and recording attendance.
Assists in setting up and taking down equipment and preparing venue for activities and events; Assists in conduction karate classes for different age groups; instructs and coaches participants; maintains equipment and facilities in clean and safe condition.
Evaluates students and administers belt testing.
Assists in monitoring karate activities during training and practices; recommends performances of program participants to Instructor and explains techniques and assists with skills improvement.
Monitors guests and program participants and enforces rules, regulations, and safety precautions at facilities; maintains discipline monitors behavior and resolves issues; monitors program activities, and assists participants in karate activities and programs.
Promotes a positive recreation environment and good personal behavior; explains to general public, community resource agencies and other organizations about program activities.
Prevents accidents through the enforcement of policies, rules, regulations and ordinances governing the conduct of karate patrons monitors activities in the facilities for individuals who may need assistance or guidance.
Administers first aid to the injured and calls Emergency Medical Services (EMS) on serious accident cases.
Must abide by Starport Contractor Handbook.
18 years or older
High School Diploma or GED
Experience working with youth and adults.
Teaching Martial Arts - 1 Year Shotokan discipline
Certified Black Belt
Current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification
Consent to Background Check if Required

the instructor shall be an independent contractor. The Exchange shall pay the instructor a contract rate to be determined, The instructor agrees not to obtain any substitutes for classes unless authorized by Starport Management, The instructor agrees not to use the Starport Facility for profit making activities outside the activities provided for in agreement.
