Company Description: Motion Control Corporation is a Michigan-based distributor of industrial automation components that specializes in the robotic, motion control, vision, networking, PLC and safety systems used in manufacturing. The company designs and builds press feed controls, drive panels used in transmission test, EV battery test panels, and custom controls used in automated torque, test, forming, packaging and assembly applications.
Summary: The Controls Engineer performs controls design, integration and start-up on a variety of projects for MCC's customer base of manufacturers and machine builders as well as technical support for the automation components distributed by the company. Much of the work is completed at MCC with some support and startup done at customer facilities locally. Occasional out-of-state travel is required.
Responsibilities: Programming PLC's, Robotics, Drives, Vision Systems, HMI and other automation components. Technical support of PLC, HMI, Robotic, Servo, Drive, Safety Systems sold by the company. Perform startups: troubleshoot panel/machine after build; in-field alterations and corrections.
Maintain current knowledge of new and existing products, applications, and standards: NFPA, UL 508, IEC and CE as they relate to control panel design and build. Work with vendors, purchasing, customers and sales force to specify, design and build solutions for customer applications and meet deadlines through project completion. Conduct project planning: estimating hours / tasks, scheduling. Meet vendor product and application knowledge, reporting and training requirements through successful completion of factory training, experience gained in the field and online. Report activities to management regularly. Backup jobs to the server regularly. Regular in-state travel is required, primarily in southeast Michigan. Travel is typically short-term with nights at home. Out-of-state travel is occasionally required. Some weekend travel is required. Ability to obtain valid passport is required.
Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field. Two or more years of relevant controls engineering experience: creating controls drawings, completing field installations, on-site troubleshooting and panel design. Two or more years of PLC programming experience required. Rockwell, Siemens and Omron desired.
Design capabilities must include electrical and controls design using AutoCAD.
Experience with E-Plan is preferred.
Proficiency reading, understanding and creating panel layout and electrical control, pneumatic and hydraulic drawings using CAD.
Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings. Working knowledge of robotic programming and/or motion/servo experience desired.
Experience drive sizing and configuration.
Experience with project planning.
Experience with startups.
Excellent computer skills.
Proficient with Microsoft Office: Word, Excel and Outlook . Strong organizational skills. Ability to prioritize and schedule a variety of competing tasks, driving them to completion in a self-motivated fashion. Professional demeanor with excellent recall and the ability to communicate technical concepts with confidence. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Self-motivated with the ability to work well independently and in a team environment.
