GrowNYC Wholesale is a Bronx-based hub for source-verified, high-quality, fair-priced local foods to meet the city’s burgeoning demand for local food in wholesale volumes. GrowNYC Wholesale is a local food distribution service with a two-pronged mission: to create a profitable wholesale marketplace for regional farm and food businesses, and to create transparent, efficient supply chains that increase all New Yorkers’ access to high-quality, locally produced food.
Seasonal Wholesale Delivery Driver
The Seasonal Wholesale Delivery Driver is part of a driver team responsible for providing efficient and safe delivery of produce by the case or pallet to clients within NYC (5 Boroughs). Drivers pick up trucks from our warehouse facility in Hunts Point, Bronx, make deliveries in a 16’, 18’, or 22’ refrigerated truck with lift gate, and operate hand trucks, pallet jacks, and forklifts as needed. Drivers deliver orders to the appropriate destination within a scheduled time. They are expected to provide professional customer service, keep all delivery documents and invoices neat and organized, and communicate with supervisors regarding lateness, equipment issues, and damaged or missing product. This position reports directly to the Operations and Logistics Manager. The Seasonal Wholesale Delivery Driver position is seasonal. Additionally, Managers will be tasked with ensuring all COVID-19 safety measures.
Responsibilities (include, but are not limited to)
Making deliveries in a 16’ or 18’ refrigerated truck with lift gate.
Operating equipment and machines, such as hand trucks, pallet jacks, and forklifts as needed
Following delivery driving routes and time schedules
Providing customer service, answering questions, and handling complaints from clients
Preparing and organizing all delivery documents and invoices
Abiding by all transportation laws and maintaining a safe driving record.
Follow and enforce rules and regulations, especially as they pertain to social distancing and food safety
Commercial truck driving experience or recent CDL graduate
Familiarity with and driving knowledge of NYC streets
Attention to detail
Ability to maneuver a full pallet with appropriate equipment
Must be comfortable interacting with customers
Ability to communicate effectively with customers and coworkers
Experience working with wholesale produce a plus
Familiarity with storage of food products and/or food handling
Ability to work early mornings and weekends
Driving Record requirements
Must have a valid NY, NJ, CT or PA driver license
CDL is not required, but a plus
Forklift Certification is not required, but a plus
3 points or less on a motor vehicle report
No suspensions for moving violations or accidents
Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
Schedule: This position is seasonal, with full-time hours from May-November. Shifts are available Monday-Saturday and usually start early in the morning (5am-6am).
Compensation: The position is a non-exempt seasonal and variable hourly position. It pays $20-$22 per hour depending on experience and includes only statutory benefits. All hourly “Food Responder” staff will receive base pay plus $3 per hour for work in the field effective through June 30, 2020.
